摘要： In a method for operating a field device in automation engineering which has special functionalities, a set of enable codes with a plurality of enable codes is managed in a higher-order key management unit. With the aid of the enable codes, special functionalities in field devices can be enabled. Individual enable codes of the set of enable codes are each assigned the attribute “free” or “blocked” in the key management unit. If a special functionality is required, an enable code is transmitted to the field device, if a “free” enable code is present. After the transmission, the attribute of this enable code is changed from free to blocked. The method makes it possible to use enable codes in a very flexible manner.
