The battery body comprises a laminate or coil including a positive plate, a negative plate, and a separator between them; and a plurality of leads connected to the positive and negative plates. The package, in which the battery body is placed, is charged with electrolyte and sealed in such a manner that the inner pressure is lower than atmospheric pressure and higher than the vapor pressure of the electrolyte. This battery is kept from generation of gas in the package during storage at high temperature and from the increase in the inner pressure due to expansion of gas.

The present invention provides an antifouling coating formed from a water-based coating composition comprising 0.1 % by mass to 10 % by mass of ultrafine silica particles having an average particle size equal to or less than 25 nm, 5 % by mass to 50 % by mass, relative to the ultrafine silica particles, of a zirconium compound which is at least one selected from zirconium chloride and zirconyl chloride, and 30 % by mass to 99.5 % by mass of water. In accordance with the present invention, it is possible to provide an antifouling coating that can maintain the antifouling performance and hydrophilicity and prevent corrosion of fins even under an environment with a large amount of contaminating substances, such as metal particles, in the air.

Conventionally, a separator has a function of losing its ion conductivity because melt takes place if the temperature rises when a failure such as short-circuit occurs and accordingly the sizes of pores in the separator decreases. However, the pores clog if the temperature rises to an extent and the separator itself melts, resulting in deformation such as shrinkage, making holes because of dissolution, and thereby causing dielectric breakdown. A separator (3) for a cell according to the invention free from the above problem, comprises a first porous layer (3a) mainly containing thermoplastic resin and a second porous layer (3b) formed over the first porous layer (3a) and having a heat resistance higher than that of the first porous layer (3a).
