A carbon/carbon composite having oxidation resistance is produced by filling the voids of a carbon/carbon composite comprising 10-70% by volume of carbon fibers and 5-90% by volume of a carbonaceous matrix and having a void percentage of 10-55%, with at least one of carbon and a ceramic by chemical vapor infiltration and then coating the deposit surface with a ceramic or both ceramic and carbon by chemical vapor deposition.

A method for transferring ink (24a, 34a, 44a, 64a, 94a, 104a) on a plate (21, 31, 41, 61, 91 and 101) onto a material to be printed (23, 33, 43, 53, 67, 93, 106) by a printing method. The method involves the steps of: providing the ink at predetermined positions (25, 35, 45, 65) on the plate, the ink being sensitive to a field to increase its viscosity so as to have a solidified state or a semi-solidified state; applying the field to the ink to maintain configuration of the ink provided at the predetermined positions on the plate; and transferring the ink onto the material to be printed while maintaining the ink in the solidified or semi-solidified state.

A curing resin obtained in the following manner, 100 parts by weight of at least one material (component A) selected from the group consisting of a five-membered cyclic compound having conjugated double bonds which is represented by the general formula: wherein R represents alkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and m and n stand for 0 or for an integer of 1 to 6 and m+n = 6, and addition products thereof formed by the Diels-Alder reaction, 0 to 50 parts by weight of an aromatic compound (component A′) having at least one polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond and 2 to 120 parts by weight of a compound (component B) having at least one polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond and at least one hydroxy group are polymerized under heating; the obtained cyclopentadiene resin (R1) having hydroxy groups and/or the resin (R1′) having hydroxy groups obtained by selective hydrogenation of only the double bonds in the said resin (R1) is reacted with a polyisocyanate compound (component C) at an equivalent ratio of the isocyanate groups in the component C in the range of 0.02 to 0.95 based on the hydroxy groups in the resin R1 and/or R1′; the thus obtained resin (R2) is then esterified with an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (component D) at an equivalent ratio of carboxyl groups in the component D in the range of 0.1 to 1.1 based on the hydroxy groups in the resin (R2).

An ink composition for waterless plates for lithography, which comprises as the vehicle a resin (III) obtained by copolymerizing a five-membered compound, such as cyclopentadiene, and/or a Diels-Alder adduct thereof with an unsaturated aromatic hydrocarbon monomer to obtain a resin (I), reacting the resin (I) with an unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or the anhydride thereof to obtain a resin (II) and then further reacting the resin (II) with a phenolic resin to obtain the resin (III).

This invention relates to a new and improved resin composition containing polyphenylene ether and, more particularly, to a molding resin composition including polyphenylene ether and cyclopentadiene resin containing a polar group. The new and improved resin composition has good mel. ting flowability and retains good mechanical and thermal characteristics inherent to polyphenylene ether and can be suitably used as a molding material.

A method for preparing a resin having light color comprises the steps of: hydrogenating a compound represented by the formula (1) wherein ℓ, m and n are integers of 0 ≦ ℓ ≦ 3, 0 ≦ m ≦ 8 and 1 ≦ n ≦ 3, respectively, and R¹ to R⁶ each represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 3 carbon atoms, with or without R⁵ and R⁶ forming a ring, in the presence of a Ziegler catalyst containing a transition metal compound of the groups IV to VI of the Periodic Table and an organometallic compound of the groups I to III of the Periodic Table in combination to obtain a norbornene compound represented by the formula (2) wherein ℓ, m, n and R¹ to R⁶ are the same as above; and polymerizing the norbornene compound to give the resin having light color.
