Achieving high speed spreading code synchronization of a forward link control channel. A control channel information signal and traffic channel information signals are each spread by different first spreading codes which are fed from a first spreading code (short code) generator (11), and which have a period equal to the period of an information symbol. Subsequently, only the control channel information signal is spread by a third spreading code which is fed from a third spreading code (long code masked portion complex conjugate code) generator (12), and which has a form of complex conjugate of a long code (second spreading code) used for spreading in common. The signals of the entire channels are summed up by an adder (13) at appropriate timings, and the resultant sum is spread by the second spreading code fed from a second spreading code generator (14), thereby being output as a spread modulation signal.

A synchronous detecting method in which the transfer function of a propagation path is estimated by regarding the information symbols adjacent to pilot signals as known symbols and using the information symbols as pseudo-pilot signals. The method includes a step of estimating the transfer function by using the pilot signals, a step of performing interpolation synchronous detection of part of the information symbols by using the estimated transfer function, a step of storing the result of the interpolation synchronous detection as pseudo-pilot signals, a step of reestimating the transfer function related to information symbols corresponding to the pseudo-pilot signals from the pseudo-pilot signals and the received signals corresponding to the pseudo-pilot signal, regarding the pseudo-pilots as known correct signals, and a step of performing interpolation synchronous detection of each information symbol by using the reestimated transfer function. Thus, the detection characteristic can be improved by estimating the transfer function with high accuracy even when the number of symbols per pilot signal is small.

The base station communicates with the external channels using ATM cells, and with the mobile stations using the CDMA signals by mapping a plurality of logical channels into a plurality of physical channels. The CDMA signals are spreading using two types of spreading code sequences, that is, a short code and a long code.

A mobile station MS regarding this invention is consists of a transmission and receiving amplifier unit AMP, a radio unit TRX, a baseband signal processing unit BB, a control unit MS-CNT and a terminal interface unit TERM-INT. In the multi-code-transmission, the efficiency in use of the frequency resources is enhanced and the improvement of the communication quality is realized by transmitting the control information (a pilot symbol and a TPC symbol), with increasing the transmission power by one designated dedicated physical channel only. It is possible to improve the efficiency in use of the frequency resources and the communication quality, and to reduce the power consumption, by determining the transmission/discard of the transmission information according to the communication quality or the communication status. Furthermore, it is possible to improve the efficiency in use of the frequency resources and to reduce the power consumption, by avoiding that the calling occurs frequently.

A repeater for improving a RAKE receiving effect. A signal received from a base station passes in parallel through a first path including a first delay element, and a second path not including a delay delement, and is sent to a mobile station. A signal received from the mobile station passes in parallel through a third path including a second delay element, and a fourth path not including a delay element, and is sent to the base station. The delay time for the delay elements is set to be longer than one chip time for a diffusion code. Consequently, a re- soluble multiple wave is generated forcibly in a RAKE receiver. In the RAKE receiver, the amplitude of a desired wave component alone is estimated with respect to each delay wave. With reference to this amplitude, the weighing of each delay wave component from a detector is done, and the weighed signals are synthesized and subjected to code judgement.
