The present disclosure relates to transmitter and receiving devices for wireless communication, where the transmitter device comprises a transceiver configured to receive at least one stream of information bits; and further comprises a processor configured to encode said at least one stream of information bits using at least one error correction code to obtain at least one mother code word having a mother code rate RM; obtain a shortened code word or extended code word based on the determination of whether the mother code rate RM is smaller than a transmission code rate RTX; modulate said shortened or extended code word to obtain modulated symbols; wherein said transceiver is further configured to transmit a signal comprising said modulated symbols over a radio channel of the wireless communication system. Abstract:
A method for uplink transmission includes determining a channel loss that occurs along a communication channel between an access point and a tag. An uplink spreading factor is determined based at least in part on the loss factor and at least in part on a predetermined power at which the access point is to receive an uplink signal from the tag. The uplink signal is spread with the uplink spreading factor. The uplink signal is transmitted from the tag to the access point.

A system and method for reducing the reacquisition time of a subscriber unit by a base station. The reacquisition time is reduced in that an access signal from a subscriber unit at a predetermined power transmission level is transmitted; said transmission power and a code phase delay of said access signal are varied until a confirmation signal is received from said base station; centered around a maximum code phase delay said access signal is detected at said base station when a sufficient power level and the maximum code phase delay have been achieved; a confirmation signal is transmitted from said base station when said access signal has been detected; said confirmation signal is received at said subscriber unit; and the variation in transmission power and the code phase delay are ceased at said subscriber unit when said confirmation signal is received.

The present invention claims a multiple access spread-spectrum communication system for dynamically changing a transmission rate of an information signal received from a remote processing unit (RPU) over a telecommunication line and transmitted to a subscriber through a first spread-spectrum message channel of a plurality of spread spectrum message channels, the system comprising a) a base station, connected to the RPU, which identifies an information signal rate of the respective information signal and provides a modify signal responsive to the information signal rate; comprising: a system channel controller which assigns the information signal and the modify signal to respectively different ones of the plurality of spread-spectrum message channels; first information channel mode modification means connected to the system channel controller and responsive to the modify signal for switching the respective information signal from the first spread-spectrum message channel supporting a first information channel rate to one other pre-determined spread-spectrum message channel, the one other pre-determined spread-spectrum message channel having a different information channel rate supporting the identified information signal rate; and b) a subscriber unit comprising: a first despreading means for recovering the respective information signal and modify signal from the first spread spectrum message channel; second information channel mode modification means responsive to the modify signal for reassigning the first despreading means to a second despreading means which supports the different information channel rate, the second despreading means corresponding to the second spread spectrum message channel.
