Since the forward end part of the rotary arm (30) of cantilever structure is supported by a supporting member (40) extending along the center line CL of the optical disc (12), the cantilever structure is built and vibration of the rotaryarm (30) can be prevented. Since the supporting member (40) extends along the center line CL of the optical disc (12), the supporting member (40) extends through the central holding hole (12a) of the optical disc (12) and a cut (22) provided in the center of a tray (20) with no interference and supports the rotary arm (30).

The optical disc device (10) is provided with a main body having a disc inserting/ejecting port (11), and a transfer roller for transferring a disc between the disc inserting/ejecting port (11) and a main body. The optical disc device is also provided with a rocking lever, which has its base end rotatably supported inside the main body by a supporting shaft, with a disc reaching switch fixed on the rocking lever; and a detecting lever, which has its base end rotatably supported on the supporting shaft and permits the disc reaching switch to operate when a leading end is brought into contact with an outer circumference of the disc stored at a disc storing position. When the disc is inserted into the disc storing position, the detecting lever is protruded to the disc storing position.

When the loading of the optical disk (12) recorded with information is started, a pair of rollers (14, 14) are rotated to clamp the optical disk (12) inserted into the slot (11) of the body (13) of the optical disk device (10) and load the disk into the inside of the body (13). At this time, circumferential edge detection means (20) disposed in the body (13) continuously detects the circumferential edge (12a) of the optical disk (12) inserted, so that it detects the external diameter, shape and insertion status of the optical disk (12) inserted. In case something wrong is judged, the optical disk (12) is unloaded.
