摘要: A magazine assembly (102) containing numerous media units is disposed adjacent to a picker assembly (300). One of the two assemblies is normally stationary, while the other assembly is a traveling assembly. In either case, the two assemblies cooperate with one another to selectively provide the picker assembly with access to the media units that are stored in the magazine assembly (102). A motion reversal assembly (110) is coupled to the normally stationary assembly (102) and is engageable by the traveling assembly (300) when it enters an end portion (304) of its excursion path (302). When the motion reversal assembly (110) is so engaged, it moves the normally stationary assembly (102) in the direction opposite to that of the traveling assembly's movement. The effect is an apparent increase in the traveling assembly's available excursion length, which makes it possible for the picker assembly to access media slots that would otherwise be disposed in the dead spaces located on either end of the traveling assembly's excursion path.

摘要: A disc changer comprises a receiving unit (2) for receiving a plurality of discs, a base unit (1), a playback unit (5) and a transfer unit (6) for transferring one of the plurality of discs to the playback unit. The transfer unit is movable in the perpendicular direction to the base unit. The playback unit has on its opposite ends swing support axes (5b,6a). The playback unit is swingable around the swing support axes relative to the base unit and the transfer unit, respectively. The playback unit has a gear (8). The base unit has a base unit-gear segment portion (7) and the transfer unit has a transfer unit-gear segment portion (25). The gear is held between the base unit-gear segment portion and the transfer unit-gear segment portion so as to engage with these gear segment portions.

摘要: A library capable of receiving storage media or the like with a high storage efficiency, being simple in construction to permit reduction of the cost of manufacture and permitting access time reduction is disclosed. The library comprises storage units 4 and 5 each capable of storing a plurality of cartridges 50 accommodating storage media one above another, a drive unit 2 for reading and writing data out of and in the storage media, and a cartridge transfer mechanism 3 for transferring the cartridges 50 between the drive unit 2 and the storage units 4 and 5. The storage units 4 and 5 can each store a plurality of cartridges 50 and accommodate a cartridge 50 having been rotated horizontally by approximately 90 degrees with respect to a cartridge inserting direction of the library.

摘要: A media library has optical disks carried in caddies. Each one of a plurality of magazines each carry a number of the optical disks on the caddies. A two-dimensional array of media receptacles receive said magazines for storage. Each of the magazines have an opening for receiving the caddies. Storage of the magazines in the media receptacles is with the magazines opening facing into the media receptacles. One of more media drives are disposed in the two-dimensional array. Each media drive has a plurality of drive ports for receiving the media. Some of the drive ports can receive the magazine while other drive ports receive media removed from the magazines. Usually one media drive has one type of port. Transfer of media from and to the drive ports to and from a play position of a media play device in the media drive is random access. Media sorters and temporary magazine holders are provided in the array. Controls are provided to sort media based on changes in job streams of a data processor and based upon detecting error-prone media. The error-prone media are collected for removal from the library.

摘要: In a recorder and/or reproducer, a disc cartridge container is loaded, in which a plurality of disc cartridges are accommodated without superposition of the cartridges by arranging a plurality of cartridge housing parts storing the disc cartridges in a matrix on one plane. This disc recorder and/or reproducer is provided with a rotary support base which supports a driver support base on which are mounted a disc rotating mechanism capable of approaching and parting from the disc cartridge, and an optical pick-up; a fixed support base which so supports the rotary support base as to rotate; a rotating mechanism which rotates the rotary support base; and a driver support base lifting mechanism which lifts and lowers the driver support base in order to allow the disc rotation driving mechanism and the optical pick-up to approach and part from the disc cartridge. By rotating the rotary support base, and by causing the disc rotation driving mechanism and the optical pick-up to approach and part from the disc cartridge, data on a plurality of discs are reproduced in sequence without moving the disc cartridges.

摘要: A disk player has a magazine for storing disks and a disk transport mechanism transporting a selected disk between a playback position outside the magazine and a store position located entirely within the magazine. The carriages are stacked upon each other and pivotally supported within the magazine. The carriages are extracted from the stack by lifting a front end of a carriage above a selected carriage. Subsequent to the lifting of the carriage, the selected carriage is withdrawn from the magazine to the playback position. When a selected carriage is moved to the playback position, the disks on carriages above and below the selected carriage are prevented from shifting with the removal of the selected carriage by coaxial opposing shafts which extend through spindle holes in the disks on the carriages above and below the selected disk. A closeable gap between the two shafts permits the selected disk to be shifted. The gap is closed, except when a carriage is being shifted into or out of the magazine, thereby preventing disks and their carriages from shifting due to vibration or tilting of the cabinet.
