摘要: A printing apparatus (10) includes a rotatable anilox roll (32) engageable with a rotatable print cylinder (30) for transferring ink thereto. A rotatable wipe roll (34) and a doctor blade head (36) are selectively engageable with different portions of the anilox roll (32) to provide alternative wipe roll and doctor blade inking systems. Preferably,both inking systems have substantially common ink supply (74, 78) and ink return (46, 90, 92) paths with a valve (80) being selectively operable to direct the ink supply path (78) to either the wipe roll (34) or the doctor blade head (36). Facilities for effecting a wash cycle may be provided to wash either inking system after use. Preferably, an interlock arrangement prevents changing in use between the two inking systems until a wash cycle has been completed.

摘要: A machine or machine section (12) for squaring folded container blanks has a conveyor (16)for conveying slotted and partially folded container blanks (130). A folding device (34) completes folding of each container blank while being conveyed by the conveyor (16). A gauge plate (44) is inserted in a slot (142) in each of the slotted and partially folded container blanks (130). A mechanism (38, 46) moves the gauge plate (44) in timed sequence with the conveyor (16), inserts the gauge plate in the slot (142) before completion of folding of the respective blank (130) in order to "square" the folded blank, and then withdraws the gauge plate (44) from the slot. Overlapping flaps (132, 138) of each folded blank may be tacked together during "squaring" by drops of hot melt adhesive (140) which subsequently hold the flat folded blanks (124) square while the conventional slow drying water soluble glue dries. The "squaring" arrangement may be incorporated in a conventional gluer/folder machine.

摘要: A method and apparatus for mounting a die (62), particularly a rigid cutting die, on a die cylinder (22) includes having a bubble (116) along a seal (76) on the die to bridge any gaps between the die (62) and the die cylinder (22) when the die is initially positioned on the die cylinder (22). This bubble seal (76) enables a vacuum to be applied between the initially positioned die (62) and the die cylinder (22) to pull the die (62) down against and into conformity with the surface of the die cylinder, at the same time flattening the bubble seal (76). A key (68) at a trailing edge (66) of the die (62) locates in an axial keyway (50) in the die cylinder (22) to circumferentially position the die (62); a bolt (90) is then inserted at a leading edge (86) of the die (62) to establish axial location. During operation the die (62) is held in position by the vacuum. Beam sensors (56, 58) and light reflectors (52, 94) may be incorporated to sense when a wrong die (62) is present and shut down the apparatus. Ball valve members (150) may be incorporated in the surface of the die cylinder (22) to distribute the vacuum and also to enable the die (22) to be rolled along the surface of the die cylinder while initially being positioned.
