A pneumatic tire of which self-seal function can be improved while the increase in weight of the tire is minimized. The pneumatic tire contains a rubber component decomposed by peroxide and 0.2 to 20 parts by weight of peroxide per 100 parts by weight of the rubber component. An adhesive sealant layer constituted from a rubber composition where fibrillated short fibers with an average length of 100 to 5000 μm are mixed and scattered are arranged in the region corresponding to at least a tread portion at the inner side of the tire.

A pneumatic tire in which a sealant layer has been formed based on a decomposition reaction of polyisobutylene and which has an excellent puncture-preventing function while avoiding any inconvenience aroused by the sealant layer formation. The pneumatic tire has a sealant layer in that region of the inner surface of the tire which corresponds at least to the tread. The sealant layer is made of a pressure-sensitive adhesive sealant obtained by heating a rubber composition containing 0.2 to 20 parts by weight of a peroxide per 100 parts by weight of a rubber ingredient comprising at least 50 wt.% of polyisobutylene and 0.2 to 20 parts by weight of a peroxide. A liquid ethylene/α-olefin copolymer, liquid polybutadiene, or liquid polyisoprene is added as a pressure-sensitive adhesive for the sealant layer in an amount of 5 to 50 parts by weight.
