摘要:
A device (21) for delivering a topically applied anesthetic agent gel to a wall forming a passage in tissue comprising a flexible elongate cylindrical member (22) having proximal and distal extremities (23, 24). The member is sized so that it can be inserted into the passage. An anesthetic agent is carried by the member for supplying the anesthetic agent along at least the distal extremity of the member for a sufficient period of time to anesthesize the wall and the tissue surrounding the wall whereby other medical devices can be inserted into the passage without substantial pain to the patient.

A catheter and a method of using a catheter for delivery of fluid, in particular a medicament, to the bladder of a patient. In one embodiment the catheter comprises a valve at its proximal end, the valve being arranged to prevent egress of fluid from the lumen via an aperture in the proximal end of the catheter. The valve allows passage of a fluid through the aperture and into the lumen of the catheter, but prevents egress of fluid from the lumen. In another embodiment the catheter comprises a tube having two portions of differing flexibility. The distal portion of the tube has less flexibility relative to the proximal portion of the tube. The relative stiffness of the distal portion facilitates easy insertion of the catheter into the urethra. The relatively flexible proximal portion protrudes beyond the urethral meatus and facilitates handling of this portion of the catheter.

The invention provides a catheter (1) which is movable between an un-expanded and an expanded configuration by use of an advancing mechanism (20). The advancing mechanism facilitates safe and non-contaminated use of the catheter.

Methods, devices, and medicaments that include oxaliplatin are provided for use in the treatment of bladder cancer by locally administering oxaliplatin into the bladder of a patient to achieve a sustained concentration of oxaliplatin in urine in the bladder sufficient to produce a therapeutic concentration of oxaliplatin in bladder tissue. The oxaliplatin may be delivered into the bladder from an intravesical drug delivery device inserted into the bladder, wherein the device continuously releases the oxaliplatin into the urine in the bladder over an extended period of hours or days.

A device for insertion of material into a urethra comprising: a nozzle with a rounded nozzle tip, sized for at least partial insertion into the urethra; and a source of compressed material coupled to the nozzle where a pressure of the compressed material is less than 200 cm H2O; a control, for control of flow of material from the source through the nozzle; wherein a maximum extent of the device is less than 30 cm.

A urinary catheter assembly includes a catheter member and a sleeve member receiving at least a portion of the catheter member and having a greater flexibility than the catheter member. The assembly also includes a stylet having a proximal end movably positioned within the catheter member, with a distal portion of the stylet being positioned outside of the catheter member. The assembly is movable between a compact configuration and an extended configuration. In the compact configuration, the distal portion of the stylet is positioned outside of the catheter member and at least partially within the sleeve member. In the extended configuration, a larger distal portion of the stylet is positioned outside of the catheter member than in the compact configuration. The assembly may be in the extended configuration for introduction into a urethra or may be advanced through a urethra prior to being moved to the extended configuration.
