A single float (42) actuates a stem (57) of the overfill protection device as well as a rod (20) of the level gauge (18). In one embodiment a crank mechanism may be provided between a float lever (44) and the rod (20) of the level gauge (18) to cause the rod (20) to effectuate a swinging movement and simultaneously displace the rod (20) longitudinally to cause linear displacement of the permanent magnet (64) in the valve body bore (62).
