    摘要: A magnetic disc unit which can restrain occurrence of flutter so as to countermeasure such a problem that the larger the rotational speed of discs, the higher the flutter, causing heat positioning errors, in order that the high rotational speed and high positioning accuracy are consistent with each other. Discs (1) are surrounded along their outer peripheries by a shroud (outer wall) (20) while a gap between end faces of the discs (1) and the shroud (20) is decreased to a predetermined distance, thereby to eliminate air pressure differential between opposite surfaces of each of the discs in order to reduce flutter.

    摘要: A rotating magnetic storage device is shown wherein the transducer and media are separated during operation by a thin film of low viscosity liquid lubricant that is recirculated from a reservoir within the head-media enclosure. Lubricant recirculation can be effected by capillary action using a wick, mechanical pumping and metering or distillation techniques. As compared to devices using air bearing separation, the transducer carrying slider has very small bearing surfaces which may be in the form of narrow rails or small depending foot elements. This enables fly heights of 2 microinches using a film of one micron thickness.

    摘要: A disk file with a conventional slider and a disk with an essentially carbon protective overcoat is cycled on and off at a frequency such that the slider is maintained in contact with the disk. Alternatively, the disk is rotated at a low constant speed so that the slider is maintained in contact with the disk. In both cases, carbon is transferred from the carbon overcoated disk to the air bearing surface of the slider, depositing a thin protective carbon film on the air bearing surface of the slider. During subsequent operation of the disk file, the disk file has excellent durability, especially when operated at relatively low humidity, as is required in those disk files which use a magnetoresistive sensor on the slider.

    摘要: Use of lubricant coated magnetic disks in a magnetic disk storage can alleviate the problems of head crashes and flying head slider wear.
    By arranging a lubricant evaporation source (10,20,30) in an air-tight enclosure (13) of the storage to fill the enclosure with lubricant vapour, evaporation and consumption of coated lubricant layers on the disks (1) is suppressed, to maintain the layers stable over long operating times.
    An evaporation surface of the lubricant evaporation source (10,20,30) can be arranged on an inside wall (7a) of the enclosure, on a dummy disk surface (31), or in a place exposed to circulating hot air flow (12) inside the enclosure (13).
    A porous structure or rough surface structure for the source (10, 20, 30) is effective to accelerate evaporation of lubricant from the source and to provide strong adhesion of the lubricant material.
