The present technology is generally directed to coal charging systems used with coke ovens. In some embodiments, a coal charging system includes a charging head having opposing wings that extend outwardly from the charging head, leaving an open pathway through which coal may be directed toward side edges of the coal bed. In other embodiments, an extrusion plate is positioned on a rearward face of the charging head and oriented to engage and compress coal as the coal is charged along a length of the coking oven. In other embodiments, charging plates extend outwardly from inward faces of opposing wings.

Provided are a petroleum needle coke having a sufficiently low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and achieving suppression of puffing and a method of producing the petroleum needle coke. Specifically provided is a petroleum needle coke for a graphite electrode. A powder of the petroleum needle coke having a grain size of 75 µm or less is heated at 2,800°C in an argon gas atmosphere to yield a graphite powder having a loop structure that is formed by folding a stack including a plurality of stacked graphite crystal sheets, the graphite crystal sheet includes carbon atoms arranged in a plane, the graphite powder has an edge surface of the closed loop structure of the stack, and a loop formed by two adjacent layers on an innermost periphery of the stack has a stack angle of 5° or less. This invention relates to a process of hydrothermal carbonization of an aqueous mixture of biomass and catalyst, which comprises at least the following steps: (a) feeding said aqueous mixture of biomass and catalyst to a vertical reverse flow reactor through a riser tube wherein the monomerization of biomass is initiated resulting in a first reaction product; (b) polymerizing said first reaction product to give rise to a second reaction product; (c) accumulating and subsequent evacuating the gases and water vapor through the top of the reactor. It is a further object of the invention an installation for carrying out the process, as well as the product obtained by the process and its use.

A method for manufacturing coal briquettes which are charged into a dome part of a melter-gasifier to be rapidly heated in a manufacturing apparatus of molten iron including the melter-gasifier in which reduced iron is charged, and a reducing furnace connected to the melter-gasifier and providing the reduced iron is provided. The method for manufacturing coal briquettes includes: i) providing fine coal; ii) calcinating a carbon source; iii) providing a mixture obtained by mixing the fine coal and the calcined carbon source; and iv) providing coal briquettes by molding the mixture. In the providing of the mixture, the amount of carbon source may be more than 0 and 30wt% or less of the mixture.

The invention relates to a coal charging telescope for filling coke ovens, comprising an upper connecting device (1) for fixing to a coal charging wagon, a charging telescope upper part suspended on swinging elements (2) and a charging telescope lower part (6) suspended on a lifting device (5) by means of additional swinging elements (4). A seal (7) is arranged between the charging telescope upper part (3) and the connecting device (1). According to the invention, the charging telescope lower part (6) engages in the charging telescope upper part (3) and is constructed as a double-walled element, which has an outer jacket (9) and an inner pipe (10). The connecting device (1) has a coal charging pipe (11) and a gas collecting chamber (12), adjoining the upper side of the charging telescope upper part (3) and having an outlet opening (13) to conduct emissions away. In every functional position of the lifting device (5), the coal charging pipe (11) of the connecting device (1) reaches into the region of the charging telescope lower part (6). Emissions can be conducted away through an annular space (14) belonging to the charging telescope lower part (6) and bounded by the outer jacket (9) and the inner pipe (10), into the charging telescope upper part (3), and from there into the gas collecting chamber (12) of the connecting device (1).

The invention relates to a method for charging coking-oven chambers of the "heat recovery" or "non-recovery" type, in which method coking-oven chambers are loaded by means of a setting-base which is brought up to the coking-oven chambers for the purpose of charging same. Prior to the charging of the coking-oven chambers, this setting-base is provided with stacked pressed coal blocks or with a finished coal cake and is brought up to the coking-oven chambers in order to charge them, these coking-oven chambers being loaded with the setting-base being pulled out from the coking-oven chamber at the end-face, or by means of a ram. Prior to loading with coal, said setting-base is provided with a layer of particles in order to reduce adhesive forces and thus stop the coal cake or the coal compacts from baking onto said setting-base. The invention also relates to a device comprising a setting-base equipped with an adhesive layer which consists of particles that reduce adhesive forces.
