摘要:
Torsional vibration dampers (TVDs) having a plurality of spokes designed to withstand both torsional and bending forces and vibrations are disclosed. The spokes, which connect a central member to a peripheral rim, include a first end coupled to an outer radial surface of the central member; a second end coupled to an inner radial surface of the rim; and four concave surfaces extending between the first end and the second end. The concave surfaces may be concave from the first end to the second end and may also be concave laterally from front to back or side to side. A TVD having a hub with spokes having one or more concave surfaces is also disclosed herein. A method of designing the spokes for the hub is also disclosed.

The object is to suppress beating sounds produced while a pulley is rotating in a simple manner at a low cost. A mold 9 for forming the pulley has gate holes 10 through which resin is injected into the mold 9. Not all of the gate holes 10 have the same diameter, and also, the gate holes 10 are arranged so as to be rotationally asymmetric about the rotation axis of the pulley. Further, a plurality of ribs 7 reinforcing a disk portion 6 disposed between radially inner and outer cylindrical portions 5 and 3 of the pulley are designed such that not all of the ribs 7 have the same thickness. With these arrangements, portions of the resin injected through the respective gate holes 10 reach the portion in the cavity 8 of the mold corresponding to the radially outer cylindrical portion 5 at different times, thus making the outer diameter of the radially outer cylindrical portion 5 rotationally asymmetric. This reduces interference of a plurality of sounds produced from the pulley, thereby suppressing beating sounds.

Low-noise pulleys and methods of constructing low-noise pulleys are disclosed. In a first aspect, first and second pluralities of arms extending radially outward from the outer hub to the outer rim are angularly offset from each other about the axis of rotation to eliminate symmetry across the lateral midline of the pulley. In a second aspect, the radially outermost ends of a plurality of arms are arcuately spaced apart according to a pitch sequence describing a pseudo-random pattern of relative spacings so as to reduce or eliminate rotational symmetry of the pulley. In a third aspect, features of the first and second aspects are combined, and in one embodiment, first and second pluralities of arms are, respectively, approximately oppositely canted so as to vary the arcuate spacings of the laterally outermost ends of the arms.

The invention relates mainly to a torsional vibration damper-type pulley (100) comprising: - a substantially annular body (5), and - reinforcement members (7) distributed about an axis (C) of the body (5) of the pulley (100), and characterised in that each reinforcement member (7) has an angular offset (a, b) relative to a theoretical position in which the reinforcement member (7) would have, with all the other reinforcement members (7) of the pulley (100), a uniform angular distribution relative to the axis (C) of the pulley (100).
