The day visor (15) is thus made modular and detachable and is mounted on the helmet by a translational movement along a direction (F) enabling the upper part to be engaged (16) in a sagittal guide rail of the helmet and rotation axes of the helmet in the articulation part of the lateral arms (8) of the visor, being manually locked with a pivoting lever (6). For night operations, the day visor is disassembled and replaced with a night module mounted with a similar type of articulation of the helmet. The invention is particularly applicable to aircraft pilot helmets, enabling unprepared ejection.

The invention concerns an optical device for a helmet wherein composite materials are used for making a housing (201) with an external shape similar to those of current optical devices for helmet equipped with a protective cap. Thus said housing satisfies the aerodynamic stresses due to its use. Said housing comprises internal partitions (209-211) to maintain the optical elements, apertures (212-214) for fixing an optical device whereof the elements are bonded. The apertures are then closed with covers made of a material identical to that used for the housing. The covers are likewise bonded. Thus a light, rigid and easy-to-make housing is obtained since the tolerance levels are of the order of a tenth of millimetre.
