摘要： A centering, clamping, and ejection mechanism for a magnet disk drive assembly includes a disk guide slot (18) in face plate (16), a frame (12, 14, 39), and a base plate (96) providing the mounting and support for a disk drive motor (63) and drive spindle (90). A cover member (68) includes a recess (70), centered directly above the spindle (90), with inner walls (72) having helical guide slots (74) adapted to accept a rotor (78) which has mating thread portions (79). A disk inserted into the guide slot (18) engages with end stops (26, 28) of a lower link (108) which causes a pivotal handle (24) normally recessed in a second slot (22) of the face plate (16) to become accessible. Upon manual rotation of the handle (24), an upper link (38), interconnected with the lower link (108), engages a radial extension arm (43) of the rotor (78) thereby causing the rotor (78) to turn within the inner walls (72) of the recess (70). This brings a centering and clamping assembly (86) and the disk into engagement with the spindle (90) while the rotor (78) is locked in the clamped position and the handle (24) is recessed in the second slot (22) to prevent inadvertent actuation. A release button (50) can be manually pushed which forces the upper link (38), through an overcenter link (102), to rotate the rotor (78) and return the handle (24) to their respective original positions and to force the disk partially out of the disk slot (18).

摘要： A cartridge loading apparatus comprises a loading/ ejecting ans opening/closing mechanism (64) disposed in a housing (60). The mechanism (64) receives a cartridge (A) which encloses an optical recording disk (1) therein and includes first and second cases (4 and 6) from a port (61) formed on the housing (60 in a closed state wherein the first and second cases (4 and 6) are in contact with each other, opens the cartridge (A) by separating the first and second cases (4 and 6) from each other to expose an area of the disk (1) during the receiving operation, ejects at least part of the cartridge (A) outside of the housing (60) through the port (61), and closes the cartridge (A) by bringing the first and second cases (4 and 6) into contact with each other during the ejecting operation. The central portion of the disk (1) after the opening thereof by the mechanism (64) is clamped between a turntable (65) and clamper (69), and the exposed area of the disk (1) between the first and second cases (4 and 6) is recorded/reproduced by an optical head (70) using a laser beam.

摘要： Embodiments provide methods and systems for handling optical discs in a media library appliance and for replacing optical drives in the field. In one embodiment, the media library appliance comprises optical disc handling robotics developed for slim form factor slot load drives in a vertical orientation located on both sides of the robotics within a 19 inch rackable appliance. On the system level, the optical disc storage system provides modularity and scalability. The drives reside in field replaceable units (FRUs) that are oriented vertically on a horizontal backplane. The disc handling robotics access discs on each side stored in horizontal stacks within large disc cartridges. A small disc shuttle cartridge attaches to a large disc cartridge to provide a means to import and export a smaller number of discs from the disc cartridge.
