The invention relates to a vessel (1) comprising a riser and/or tendon tensioning construction. A connector, such as an arm or deck structure (15), is suspended from cables (12, 13) or pivot arms on the vessel. The connector carries two or more risers (3, 4) and/or tendons extending from a subsea structure to above water level (5). The free end of the cables or pivot arms is attached to a weight (16, 17) for exerting a tensioning force on the riser (3, 4) which is substantially decoupled from pitch, roll and heave motions of the vessel. One embodiment of the vessel according to the invention is characterized in that the free end of the tensioning member extends outside the hull (23) of the vessel or in a well in the vessel such as to be located below water level (5). Hereby the movements of the weight upon pitch, roll or heave motions of the vessel are limited and additional space on the vessel is made available for production or processing equipment. In one embodiment the connector is carried by cables (12, 13) and sheaves (19, 20) that are supported on two spaced apart mounting arms (21, 22) above deck level. Weight guiding elements may be provided on the vessel or on the seabed or may be formed by the risers themselves for preventing lateral movement of the weights (16, 17) and preventing damage to the risers. Other embodiments comprise flexible lines as a tensioning member connected to the seabed. To further reduce movements of the weights, the cables or pivot arms can be attached to the connector at the side of the centre line of the vessel, opposite to the side of the tensioning weight.

The invention relates to an anchoring system comprising a vessel (1) and one or more anchor lines (11, 12) extending from a first anchor (13, 15) to a pulling device (22, 23) on the vessel and from there on to a second anchor (14, 16). The invention relates to a method of welding two generally rod-shaped structures (5, 6) of a fluorine-containing plastic material in a butt weld to form a closed-loop construction. The structures may comprise sealing or backup rings for use in high pressure swivels. The method comprises steps of: placing the end faces of the structures in a contacting relationship by supporting each structure in a clamping device (3, 4) at a distance from its end face, and applying heat to the end parts of the structures that project from the clamping device. The end faces are pressed together by moving the clamping devices (3, 4) towards each other such that a welding pressure of between 0.05 and 0.5 Nmm-2, perpendicular to the end faces, is transmitted from the clamping devices to the end faces via the end parts of the structures, wherein the distance of the heating element from the end parts is sufficient to substantially prevent the heated parts of the structures to contact the heating element (10). The heating element surrounds the end parts along a substantially closed contour, and may comprise two segments which can be hinged into an open or closed position to be removed from the completed weld. The heating element may be energized in accordance with a predetermined heating profile, wherein the temperature of the weld area is measured and the heating operation of the heat generating member is increased or decreased to transmit and absorb heat from and into the heat reservoir member such that the temperature of the weld area is maintained within a predetermined margin around the heating profile. By using the method according to the present invention a very uniform and non-deformed butt weld can be produced under accurate temperature control of the weld area. Because the heating element does not directly contact the inner parts a uniform temperature distribution throughout the sealing volume can be achieved without degradation of the fluorine containing plastic material.

Such a sealing arrangement is by example used in a swivel structure. During increasing of the pressure the requirements set to sealing do increase. According to the invention it is proposed to provide the members (2, 3; 12, 13; 20, 27) with L-shaped extensions and inverted L-shaped extensions (10, 11; 19, 21; 29, 30; 34, 35) which engage into each other and in between a spacing is defined for accommodating the sealing. If the pressure of the fluid in the cavity arises the spacing for the sealing will substantially decrease.

The invention relates to a vessel comprising a hull (1) and a cylindrical turret well (3). The vessel can weathervane around a geostationary turret (4) located in the turret well. At least one swivel (7) is supported on the turret. According to the invention, the inner wall (10) of the swivel is connected to rotation drive means (18), which can thereby be reduced in size and which allow the full swivel weight to be transferred directly to the turret. In one embodiment the inner wall (10) of at least one swivel, preferably the walls of a swivel stack, is rotatably connected to a swivel support structure on the turret via a bearing (17). The rotation drive means (18) are adapted for rotating the inner walls (10) in conjuction with the vessel. In this way relative displacements between the swivel (7) and the turret (4) are reduced such that the layout of the pipe lines connected to the swivel can be simplified by the omission of expansion loops. As the weight of the swivel is carried by the turret, the rotation and pipe support structure can be relatively small. In a second embodiment the outer walls of the swivel stack are fixedly connected to the turret. In this way separate rotational drive means for the outer walls can be omitted.
