It is an object of the present invention to provide a dental instrument comprising a drill head (52) connected to a handle, wherein the drill head has an underside and is configured to be inserted into a patient's mouth. A dental bur (20) extends from the underside of the drill head and has a long axis. An imaging device (25, 55) comprising optical components for capturing and processing an image of a drilling treatment area is incorporated in the drill head and has an optical window (53, 82) directly adjacent to the dental bur on the underside of the drill head to minimize an angle between an optical line-of-sight of the imaging device and said long axis of the bur. It has also been discovered that incorporating all optical components in the dental instrument allows for greater flexibility and manoeuvring of an imaging device.

Packaging for prosthetic heart valves including an assembly for stabilizing dry prosthetic tissue implants such as heart valves during storage. The packaging assembly includes a primary sterile barrier that permits gas sterilization of the tissue implant, and a secondary sterile barrier that also prevents oxidation of the implant during long-term storage. Tissue heart valves may be placed or suspended within a cavity of an inner rigid tray with a gas-permeable lid sealed thereon, and a cap placed over the cavity to limit movement of the valve therein. The inner tray is placed within an outer sterile barrier, such as another rigid tray or a flexible pouch, and the assembly is then sterilized. The outer sterile barrier may include a double seal so that a first gas-permeable seal can be closed for sterilization, after which a second gas-impermeable seal can be closed to seal out any further oxygen contact with the tissue implant. Alternatively, the inner tray may be placed within a sterile pouch and the assembly gas-sterilized, and then the entire assembly is placed within another pouch that provides an impermeable barrier to the surrounding atmosphere to prevent oxidation of the tissue implant.

The object of the present invention is a packaging system that can be sterilized by autoclaving an aqueous product containing at least one substance that is able to deteriorate, of the type including a closed transparent primary container containing said aqueous product and formed of a plastic material based on poly(vinyl chloride) and a closed secondary container surrounding said primary container without constraint and formed of a material able to protect said substance against its deterioration and substantially steamtight. According to the invention, said system additionally includes a material able to absorb water, preferably fibrous, preferably again based on cellulose fibres, placed between said primary and secondary containers and enveloping said primary container; said packaging being able to be sterilized by autoclave without affecting the transparency properties of the primary container.

The present invention relates to a puncture resistant sealable vapour barrier sterilisation bag capable of withstanding a steam sterilisation process whilst providing an effective microbiological barrier having a first sealable opening suitable for receiving items to be sterilised and a second sealable opening adapted to couple to a sterilisation conduit. A third sealable opening may be provided in the bag to facilitate circulation within the bag via the second and third openings when the first opening is sealed. The bag forms the means for sterilising an article(s) solely within the plastic bag in conjunction with a sterilisation services supply device. The bag is preferably formed of plastics. Preferably a multilayer construction including a puncture resistant outer layer and a heat-sealable inner layer. The bag may include a covert marking technology and/or a readable unique identification code such as a tamper-resistant label applied to the bag to facilitate uniformity and traceability.

A surgical instrument including a first portion and a second portion, wherein the second portion can be sterilized separately from the first portion. The first portion can comprise an anvil, a staple cartridge channel and/or staple cartridge, and a movable cutting member. The second portion can comprise electronic components configured to control the surgical instrument and/or record data collected during the use of the surgical instrument. The first portion can be sterilized using a gamma radiation sterilization process while the second portion can be sterilized using a different sterilization process, such as steam, ethylene oxide, ozone, and/or hydrogen peroxide sterilization processes, for example. As a result, the first and second portions can be sterilized separately and delivered in two separate containers. The second portion can be stored within a sealed bag and can include an electrical terminal which can penetrate the bag and communicate with the first portion.
