A plurality of magnetic flux measurement data corresponding to two dimensional grids are obtained, then the magnetic flux measurement data are convoluted to sampling unit functions in x-direction and y-direction to obtain an interpolation function. Magnetic field is illustrated by isomagnetic contour lines based on magnetic flux measurement data and interpolation values which are obtained based on the interpolation function. One of the sampling unit functions is replaced with a differential function thereof to obtain partial differential values of arbitrary points.

A high-sensitive magnetometer has two SQUIDs each comprising a superconducting loop with one or more Josephson junctions and also has a coil comprising a continuous loop for providing magnetic flux of input signals to each of the SQUIDs in opposite directions. The magnetic flux of the input signals is detected by sums of output voltages of the SQUIDs. Magnetic flux noises equally applied on the two SQUID are cancelled by the continuous loop and at addition of the output voltages of the SQUIDs, thus large output signals can be obtained because sums of the two SQUID output signals are obtained.

A superconducting thin film is formed on a substrate 9 and patterned as a SQUID ring 4. After an insulation layer 101 a second superconducting film forms an input coil 2 and a modulation coil 1 with lead electrodes 11. On a further insulation layer 102 a ground plate 3 and lead electrodes 21 for the coil 2 are formed from superconducting film. At one end of the squid ring 4 a protective layer is deposited before the layers 101 and 102; these layers are then removed and a barrier layer 103 formed directly on the squid ring 4. This is followed by the counter electrode 5 and the bridge 6 forming the Josephson junctions 71 and 72. Because the SQUID ring 4 is the lowermost layer and the barrier layer 103 is formed directly over it a good quality of barrier layer is obtained. The bridge 6 is exposed at the top of the assembly so that the critical current can be adjusted by treatment of the bridge. In an alternative arrangement the counter electrode 5 is formed as the lowermost layer and the SQIID ring 4 is formed as the uppermost layer.

The invention concerns a superconducting device used to measure temporally and spatially varying magnetic fields generated by sources inside the object to be investigated. The invention consists of a body divided into separate and easily interchangeable self-supporting modules, interconnected by connectors. The superconducting magnetometer or gradiometer elements (12) have been attached by means of connectors (11) to the cross-connection/support element (6); this element (6) is attached to a connecting element (4) by means of connectors as well. The connecting element (4) contains also the electric components (5) necessary for connecting the SQUIDs to the room temperature electronics (14). The connecting element (4) is attached to the neck plug (3), comprising a stiff thermal isolation preventing convection and a ribbon cable made of parallel twisted pairs. The element (3) is self-supporting and it forms an integral part of the magnetometer support structure. The cables in the neck plug have been made out of wires having a relatively high resistance in order to minimize the heat leak between the room temperature and the cryogenic environment of the magnetometers; the excess noise caused by the resistive leads has been compensated, for example by increasing the SQUID gain using positive feedback.

Elle consiste à utiliser comme élément sensible un barreau (101) de matériau supraconducteur présentant une constriction (102, 103) centrale permettant de délimiter un chenal (104) dans lequel le nombre de boucles intrinsèques utiles est suffisamment limité pour que l'élément sensible se comporte comme un SQUID DC à boucle unique. Elle permet de réaliser des magnétomètres du type SQUID DC fonctionnant à la température de l'azote liquide.
