A steering mounting has two swinging arms depending from the main chassis, joined at their free ends by a horizontal tie. A primary link of a linkage mechanism is coupled to the horizontal tie, the linkage mechanism coupling the wheels to the steering mounting such that rotation of the main chassis relative to the sub-chassis causes the stub axles to pivot about the king pins. Movement of the swinging arms causes the line of action of the primary link to cross the axis about which the main chassis rotates relative to the sub-chassis, reversing the direction of steer for when the trailer is backed up.

The system further comprises power generating means to act on the rear wheels and by activation generate said turnings of the rear wheels to one or the other side, activating means mounted in the driver's cabin of the vehicle and adapted to be operated by the driver of the vehicle for activation of the power generating means for generating a steering of the rear wheels independently of the steering of the pulling vehicle or tractor as well as locking means adapted to be operated from the driver's cabin of the vehicle, in a first position for generating locking of the rear wheels in said neutral position, and being switchable from the first position to a second position, in which the rear wheels are released and brought to turn by activation of the activation means. Furthermore, the system comprises blocking means comprising speed detecting means or being adapted to cooperate with a speed detector of the vehicle for detection of the speed of the vehicle and for determination of whether or not the speed of the vehicle is higher or lower than a preset speed limit, said blocking means cooperating with the locking means and being adapted to generate blocking of the locking means in said first position, when the speed detected by the blocking means is higher than said speed limit, and to release the locking means from said blocking when the speed detected by the blocking means is lower than said speed limit.
