Currently today, the vertical blanking interval lines of TV signals are used to carry digital information, e.g. teletext, pay TV, program marking. One part of this information can be the current real time. Often consumer products are equipped with a real time clock which is linked to a micro-controller driving the complete device, e.g. a VCR. This allows to perform some programming tasks. But this real time clock needs a power supply in order to work. In case of power failure, it looses the time unless it is backed up by an expensive accumulator or a battery. A central microcontroller (1) drives a real time clock (3) and the standby function of a power supply (4) . A data extractor (2) receives a signal containing the real time, e.g. a video signal, and extracts the expected data related to the real time and transfers this data to the microcontroller. The microcontroller sets the clock after preselected time periods, e.g. once per day, and after switching on the whole apparatus. The microcontroller and the real time clock only have to be supplied in stand by mode.

In a timer apparatus, a stored reservation date for recording a programme and the present date are compared (53) and, when the reserved date is past the present date, the reserved date is automatically changed (54 to 57) to the nearest future date of the same day of the week, so that user effort is simplified and required memory space is decreased. When it is necessary to make a change in the date or day of the week being displayed, a plurality of selected display patterns are repeatedly displayed within a predetermined time period so that it appears to the user that the date and/or the day of the week is being continuously and sequentially changed at a high speed, whereas only the selected patterns are being sequentially displayed.

Each new actuation of the increment key results in incrementation of the displayed number by unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number in each succeeding higher ranking decade are next displayed in direct succession. Similarly, each new actuation of the decrement key results in decrementation of the displayed number of unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number of the current decade and then the first number of each decade of sucessively lower rank are next displayed in direct succession.

Diese Uhrzeit-Ablagedaten werden dann zusammen mit den Uhrzeitdaten, die den Zeitpunkt der Inbetriebnahme oder des vorausgegangenen Vergleichs beinhalten und in einem Aktualiserungszeitpunkt-Speicher (6) abgespeichert sind, und mit den aktuellen Uhrzeitdaten des Referenzuhrzeitgebers (10) einem Auswerter (14) zugeführt, in dem die mittlere Frequenzgenauigkeit des Oszillators (4) im Uhrzeitgeber (3) des Anwendersystems (1) ermittelt wird, die dann sowohl zur Anpassung der zeitlichen Abstände der Uhrzeit-Vergleichsintervalle als auch zu einer Frequenznachstimmung des Oszillators (4) beim Anwendersystem-Uhrzeitgeber (3) verwendet werden kann. Die Erfindung ist anwendbar bei örtlich getrennten, uhrzeitgesteuerten, insbesondere mobilen Systemen, z.B. bei mit Verschlüsselung arbeitenden Informationsübertragungssystemen mit zeitlich geändertem Schlüssel.

Eine gegen Spannungsausfall im Versorgungs-Netz (12) resistente Schaltuhr (14) soll dahingehend betriebssicher ausgestattet werden, daß die typischen Störerscheinungen nach längerem Standby-Betieb von Gangreserve-Speichern und die relativ hohen Kosten für die Speicherelemente vermieden werden. Aus der Erkenntnis heraus, daß während der Zeitspanne eines ausgefallenen Netzes (12) die Last (11) ohnehin nicht betrieben werden kann, in dieser Spanne also auch kein zeitrichtiger Betrieb der Schaltuhr (14) erforderlich ist, wird nach der Erfindung auf jegliche Gangreserve völlig verzichtet. Stattdessen wird die Schaltuhr (14) mit einem gegen Netzausfall resistenten Speicher (16) für die Schaltzeitpunkte und zusammen mit einer Funkuhr (17) betrieben, die bei Wieder-Verfügbarkeit des Netzes (12) den aktuellen Zeitpunkt bestimmt und den Steuerungszustand der Schaltuhr (14) darauf korrigiert.
