The invention relates to a method for determining the effects of fancy yarn by measuring the yarn diameter, whereby the yarn sections between the effect areas are referred to as webs. Once the web diameter has been determined, the start and end of the effect are determined when defined criteria are met and the diameter of the effect is determined on the basis of the widest diameters of the yarn between start and end of the effect. The inventive method allows to determine the effect diameter, the effect length and the web diameter in such a manner that these values come very close to the actual values.

The present invention enables efficient operations in a control system that operates in response to a request for yarn splicing made by each of a plurality of processing units 3, to stop one of a plurality of service carriages running along the same running path 6, at the processing unit for yarn splicing. Work areas are assigned to yarn splicing carriages 11, 12; for example, spinning units 3 nos. 1 to 17 are assigned to the work area A1 of the first yarn splicing carriage 11 and spinning units 3 nos. 18 to 34 are assigned to the work area A2 of the second yarn splicing carriage 12. If the spinning unit 3 no. 18 makes a yarn yarn splicing request, the system performs control such that the second yarn yarn splicing carriage 12 is dispatched, which covers the work area A2 to which the spinning unit 3 no. 18 belongs. The first yarn splicing carriage 11 calculates the distance between the current position of the carriage 11 and the yarn splicing requesting unit (no. 18). A microwave resonator for or on a textile machine, in particular a carding, drawing or combing machine is disclosed, for connection to a measuring device for measuring the thickness and or the dampness of fibre material (FB), continuously passing through the resonator chamber (31; 331). Said microwave resonator is characterised in that at least partly at least one non-conducting dielectric (303, 307; 460; 460a, 460b) is provided in the resonator (30), the dielectric constant of which remains essentially unchanged during temperature variations which are normal during machine operation. A corresponding textile machine and a dielectric for a microwave resonator are further disclosed.

The invention relates to a spinner preparation machine with a drawing gear (1a), for drawing at least one fibre web (2), in particular, a carding, drawing (1), or combing machine with at least one microwave sensor (3; 30; 300; 3000) at the inlet or the outlet from the drawing gear (1a), for measuring the web thickness of the at least one fibre web (2). The microwave sensor (3; 30; 300; 3000) comprises at least one cavity resonator, through which the at least one fibre web (2) is to be run during the measurement. According to the invention, the spinner preparation machine has means (14; 15; 45) for the prevention of temperature-dependent deformations of the resonator walls (302, 306) of the microwave sensor (3; 30; 300; 3000) during the measurements. A cavity resonator for such a microwave sensor is also disclosed.

The apparatus includes a transducer (12) coupled to a wheel driven by the cable (4) to indicate the speed of travel of the cable. A calibration unit (18) converts this speed in collaboration with a nominal twist rate set into the unit, into an output signal having a frequency equal to the nominal twist frequency of the cable. A detection assembly (10) downstream of the wheel (6) detects the variations in thickness of the twisted cable as it passes and thus produces a signal having a frequency component directly related to the actual twist rate. An analyser (18) conducts a fourier analysis on the output of the detector and, with the aid of the nominal twist frequency, is able to select the frequency component representative of the actual twist frequency. The actual twist frequency is compared with the nominal twist frequency by a comparator (20) and the resulting difference signal is fed back to the twisting assembly.

The present invention relates to a motor controlling system for an individual-spindle-drive type textile machine and eliminates the need to provide each of the motor controllers with a memory backup function for set values required to control motors, the motor controllers each controlling a corresponding driving motor for each processing unit of the textile machine. Motor controllers 30 each control a corresponding one of driving motors 2, and a master controller 40 solely controls all the motor controllers 30. A microcomputer 41 of the master controller 40 has a memory 43 always retaining set values. When the master controller 40 is activated and when it receives a predetermined signal from any of the motor controllers 30, the master controller 40 transmits the corresponding set values retained in the memory 43, to the motor controller 30, which then stores the values in a memory of a microcomputer 31 (Fig. 1).
