The present invention provides a self-propelled patient transport system (2), comprising: a) a patient table (6,6a,6b); b) one self-propelled support vehicle (14) having means for loading or unloading a patient table; c) a patient diagnosis and/or therapy station (10,12); and d) a control means (28,30) for controlling the operation of the at least one self-propelled support vehicle (14); wherein e) a patient disposed on the patient table is presentable at the patient diagnosis and/or therapy station (10,12) by controllably moving the support vehicle (14); and f) said means for unloading a patient table (6,6a,6b) are provided to unload the patient table from the support vehicle (14) into a determined position within the patient diagnosis and/or therapy station and/or said means for loading the patient table (6,6a,6b) are provided to load the patient table (6,6a,6b) from that determined position into a determined position on the support vehicle (14). By having the concept of the support vehicle which receives end discharges the patient table the patients can be prepared in a slot-like chain according the treatment schedule chosen for the diagnosis and/or therapy section which allow a high throughput of patients. The high throughput is not only a benefit for the provider, such as a hospital or a medical institute, but also for the patients since more patients can be treated within the operating time of the diagnosis and/or therapy section.

An ambulance cot frame securing system for a patient transport vehicle which includes a floor frame adapted to be secured to a floor of the patient transport vehicle. The floor frame has at a first end thereof a fixed angled restaint inclined upwardly and in a direction toward a second end of the floor frame to define an overhang spaced upwardly from the floor frame so as to provide a gap into which is adapted to be received a first part of the cot frame. The floor frame additionally has a releasable latch mechanism adapted to be releasably coupled to a second part of the cot frame so as to hold the cot frame in a fixed lengthwise location relative to the floor frame. The securement system additionally has a self-activating locking mechanism activatable in response to a sudden burst of either acceleration or deceleration of the patient transport vehicle to additionally securely lock the first part of the cot frame in a fixed position relative to the patient transport vehicle.

A fastening system for an emergency vehicle cot includes a longitudinal guide track (20) mounted upon a planar surface. One hold-down support (94) depends downwardly from the support frame (93) of the cot, extending toward the planar surface. The guide track receives the hold-down support to permit longitudinal movement thereof along the track while preventing vertical movement. A lock (55) is provided for automatically securing the support frame at a position along the track and to prevent further longitudinal movement therealong, and a release device (76) for selectively disengaging the lock is also included. The fastening system further includes a pair of spaced apart supports (24, 26), and the lock includes a plurality of locking gates (57) spaced along the guide track to receive and selectively lockingly interact with the supports. The locking gates (57) can be specifically designed to engage only with supports having a predetermined structural conformation.
