    摘要: In an encoding system responsive to a sequence of coefficient signals which results from a predetermined linear transform and which is divided into a sequence of blocks, anterior processing is carried out prior to quantization about the coefficient signals in each block to determine a significant area of the coefficient signals by comparing each level of the coefficient signals with a threshold level. Only the coefficient signals within the significant area are judged to be valid and produced as a sequence of significant coefficient signals from a classifying circuit (20) to be quantized by a quantizer (15) into a sequence of quantized signals. The quantized signal sequence is subjected to posterior processing to produce a sequence of encoded signals. The significant area may be decided by the use of a selected one of zone detection, zigzag scanning, and adaptive scanning. In the posterior processing, the quantized signals may be encoded into the encoded signals by the use of a plurality of code sets or tables.

    摘要: An inter-frame encoding/decoding equipment for television signals consists of inter-frame encoding equipment encoding a difference between television signals and the output of a frame memory and inter-frame decoding equipment which receives an encoded signal sent from the inter-frame encoding device via a transmission line, which decodes by adding the output of the frame memory to the encoded signal. The inter-frame encoding equipment is provided with a first operation circuit which operates the remainders obtained by dividing, by a predetermined value, the number of bits of logic "1" in the bit groups into which the output or the input of the frame memory is divided by a predetermined unit. The inter-frame decoding equipment is provided with a second operation circuit which operates the remainders obtaiend by dividing, by a predetermined value, the number of bits of logic "1" in the bit groups into which the output or the input ot the frame memory is divided by a predetermined unit. The inter-frame decoding equipment is further provided with a comparator circuit which compares and checks the values operated by the first and the second operation circuits to detect a transmission error.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for coding and decoding digital video images, capable of maintaining the quality of static regions, such as background images, in decoded pictures even when the resolution of pictures has been changed from high to low. The apparatus is equipped with two storage units, low-resolution and high-resolution picture storage units (4,3), to hold reference pictures in two different picture formats. When processing coded blocks (or blocks having at least one non-zero transform coefficient), a high-resolution picture updating unit (13)converts corresponding blocks of a low-resolution reference picture retrieved from the low-resolution picture storage unit (4) to obtain high-resolution block images. It then updates a high-resolution picture stored in the high-resolution picture storage unit (3) with the obtained high-resolution block images. This updating operation is not applied on non-coded blocks. As a result, only active regions corresponding to the coded blocks are updated within the picture stored in the high-resolution picture storage unit (3), while the remaining part, which may possibly be static background images, is preserved without losing their high visual quality.

    摘要: In an encoder responsive to a sequence of coefficient blocks each of which is composed of a plurality of orthogonal transform coefficients subjected to predictive encoding and orthogonal transform, the coefficient blocks are classified by a classification circuit (55) into a plurality of classes to produce a control signal (CONT) representative of the classes. Consequently, the coefficients are adaptively encoded into a reduced amount of encoded codes on encoding a moving image.
