A method and apparatus are provided for performing information-theoretically secure cryptography using joint randomness not shared by others. Two valid communicating entities independently generate samples of a shared source that is not available to an illegitimate entity. The shared source may be a satellite signal, and each legitimate entity may generate uniformly distributed samples from a binary phase-shift keying signal received on an independent channel. Alternatively, the shared source may be a channel between the two legitimate entities, such that each legitimate entity generates samples of unknown distribution based on the channel impulse response of the channel. One legitimate entity generates an encryption key, a quantization error, and a syndrome from its samples. The quantization error and the syndrome are reported to the other legitimate entity. The other legitimate entity generates a matching encryption key using its samples, the quantization error, and the syndrome.

A method and apparatus for use in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) for receiving system information. A WTRU receives a broadcast signal from a gNB, wherein the broadcast signal includes system information. The WTRU determines configuration information associated with the received system information and the WTRU transmits a signal to the gNB using the determined configuration information associated with the received system information. The configuration information includes an indication regarding whether the WTRU is able to include any one or a combination of a request signal or a feedback signal in the signal transmitted to the gNB. The transmitted signal to the gNB may include a preamble that indicates system information block (SIB) request information. The transmitted signal to the gNB may include a control field that indicates additional SIB request information. The transmitted signal may provide feedback for the received system information. The WTRU then receives system information from the gNB in response to the transmitted signal. The received system information in response to the transmitted signal is one or more SIBs.

The received SSS signal may be used as a reference signal to detect demodulation reference signals of the NR-PBCH. These demodulation reference signals may be interleaved with data on the NR-PBCH. In one method, the NR-PBCH DMRS are associated with an SSB index in an effort to improve randomization in the synchronization process. The NR-PBCH payload may be demodulated using the PSS and/or SSS and the DMRS. In one embodiment, the NR-PBCH DMRS may mapped to DMRS REs on a frequency first and time second mapping basis.

A method and apparatus for generating physical layer security keys is provided. Channel impulse response (CIR) measurements are recorded. Each CIR measurement is associated with a time-stamp. Where possible, the time-stamps are paired with time-stamps that are associated with another plurality of CIR measurements. The CIR data associated with the paired time-stamps is aggregated. Each of the aggregated CIR measurements is aligned, and at least one CIR measurement is selected for use in secret key generation.
