The present invention relates to a broadband wireless access system, and more particularly, to a method for efficiently operating a service unavailable mode of Femto base station. The method for operating a service unavailable mode of Femto base station in the broadband wireless access system according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: determining whether the preset condition for the operation of a service unavailable mode is satisfied; and broadcasting service unavailable mode information for indicating the state of service unavailable mode of the Femto base station in accordance with the result of determination on the preset condition.

The present description relates to a method in which a terminal in an idle mode performs network reentry in a wireless access system, wherein the method comprises: a step of receiving, from a base station, control information containing a first parameter and a second parameter for determining a frame in which uplink ranging is to be performed; and a step of performing uplink ranging for network reentry with the base station on the basis of the control information, wherein the first parameter indicates the location of a superframe in which uplink ranging is to be performed, and the second parameter indicates the frame duration in the superframe which is indicated by the first parameter and in which uplink ranging is performed.

A method for detecting coverage loss in a broadband wireless access system is disclosed, which recognizes a connection state between a mobile station (MS) and a base station (BS), and provides a method and apparatus for quickly performing network re-entry when the MS moves out of a coverage area of the BS. A method for allowing a base station to perform coverage loss detection of a mobile station in a broadband wireless access system includes unsolicitedly transmitting a first message wherein a bit for requesting ranging execution is set, to the mobile station, and upon receiving a second message for confirming the ranging from the mobile station prior to expiration of a first timer that begins to operate when the first message is transmitted, restarting operating a second timer established for the mobile station.

A method of handover in a wireless communication system is disclosed. A method of handover of a mobile station in a wireless communication system with femtocells comprises transmitting a control message including at least one among information of first femtocell base station detected through initial scanning and location information of the mobile station to a base station; receiving information of one or more second femtocell base stations to which the mobile station is accessible, wherein the second femtocell base stations are searched based on the control message from the base station; and performing a handover to one of the second femtocell base stations.
