The present invention relates to listening device (100) for carrying out a voice dependent compensation strategy in order to increase speech intelligibility, especially for people with a severe hearing impairment. The listening device (100) comprises an input transducer (110) configured to receive an acoustic input signal and to convert the acoustic input signal into an electric input signal (112) and an analyser (120) that is coupled to the input transducer (110) and that is configured to determine values of a number of characteristic speech parameters of the electric input signal (112) and to identify an individual voice in the electric input signal (112) in dependence of the determined values, the individual voice being one of a number of individual voices for which characteristic speech parameter values are stored in a recognition memory (122) of the listening device. The present invention refers to a hearing device system which comprises: at least a first hearing device (10) including a first control unit (14) and a second hearing device (30) including a second control unit (37) for processing acoustic signals. Each of the hearing devices includes a transceiver (20, 34) for establishing a data communications link (40) between the first and the second hearing devices. At least one of the hearing devices including a sensing means (18, 33) for detecting, whether a telephone handset (19) is placed close to the hearing device. Each of the control units includes at least a first and a second control mode. Both hearing devices are adapted for outputting the processed acoustic signals in the first control mode. Upon detection of the telephone handset the first hearing device is shifted to the second control mode for inhibiting the output of the processed acoustic signals and establishing the data communications link for transmitting the processed acoustic signals to the second hearing device. The second hearing device is also shifted to the second control mode for receiving the processed acoustic signals transmitted from the first hearing device and outputting the transmitted acoustic signals.

The control unit (24) is configured to cause the sound generation unit (28) to provide a first electrical sound signal representing a first predetermined frequency band (88) adjacent to the frequency region of interest (86), with a first predetermined bandwidth (90), and a first predetermined sound pressure level (92). The present invention relates to a method of controlling a hearing device (10) being placed at or in an ear canal (EC) of a user and defining at least partly sealed portion (B) of the ear canal (EC). The method comprises the steps of emitting predetermined sound signals (So) with different frequencies at a predetermined level, detecting the occurrence of high sound pressure levels of said predetermined sound signals indicating a resonance in said sealed portion, and providing, on the basis of said detected high sound pressure levels of the predetermined sound signals, an adjustment of the operation of said hearing device (10) to reduce the influence of said resonance. The method also comprises the steps of sensing sound signals in said sealed portion (B) of said ear canal (EC), subjecting said sensed sound signals to a predetermined processing, detecting on the basis of the processed sound signals, over a predetermined period of time, a peak value indicating a resonance, and providing on the basis of said detected peak value indicating a resonance, an adjustment of the operation of said hearing device (10) to reduce influence of said resonance.
