A film comprising the chain silica fine particles and silica of 5 to 30 % by weight based on the weight of said chain silica fine particles and having a thickness of 110 to 250 nm is coated on at least one of the glass substrate surfaces, and dents and projections is formed on the surface of said film, by which a glass plate for automobile which shows small reflectivity at high incident angle is provided.

The disclosure is directed to a chemically strengthened glass having antimicrobial properties and to a method of making such glass. In particular, the disclosure is directed to a chemically strengthened glass with antimicrobial properties and with a low surface energy coating on the glass that does not interfere with the antimicrobial properties of the glass. The antimicrobial has an Ag ion concentration on the surface in the range of greater than zero to 0.047 μg/cm2. The glass has particular applications as antimicrobial shelving, table tops and other applications in hospitals, laboratories and other institutions handling biological substances, where color in the glass is not a consideration.

The invention concerns a method for treating an ophthalmic lens comprising two main sides and having at least one side comprising an organic or mineral external layer coated with a MgF 2 temporary protective layer, wherein treating comprises depositing the MgF 2 temporary protective layer on the external layer through vacuum evaporation at low speed, i.e. a speed lower than 0.5 nm/s. The invention also relates to an ophthalmic lens comprising a hydrophobic and/or oilophobic coating layer, which has been rendered apt to trimming by the deposition of a MgF 2 temporary protective layer on said hydrophobic and/or oilophobic coating layer using the above method.

Disclosed is a method for producing a finishing formulation for hydrophobically and/or oleophobically finishing surfaces. Said finishing formulation comprises a dispersing agent, activated particles that are dispersed in the dispersing agent and contain hydrophobic and/or oleophobic surface groups, and a binder. In the disclosed method, particles comprising hydrophobic and/or oleophobic surface groups are reduced in size in the dispersing agent in order to be activated, and the binder is added prior to or following the activation process. The obtained finishing formulation results in significantly improved physical properties of a transparent finishing while having a very good hydrophobing/oleophobing effect. Said finishing formulation is suitable for finishing all surfaces, particularly for finishing all types of fibers or fabrics.
