At least two of the wellbores contain elongated heat sources configured to heat at least a portion of the subsurface hydrocarbon containing formation such that at least some hydrocarbons are mobilized.

A method and system for excavating a subterranean formation using a fluid comprising pumping the fluid through at least one nozzle such that a velocity of the fluid when exiting the nozzle is greater than a velocity of the fluid entering the nozzle. A plurality of solid material impactors are introduced into the fluid and circulated with the fluid through the nozzle. A substantial portion by weight of the solid material impactors has a mean diameter of equal to or less than approximately 0.100 inches. The fluid is pumped at a pressure level and a flow rate level sufficient to satisfy an impactor mass-velocity relationship wherein a substantial portion by weight of the solid material impactors has a minimum kinetic energy of approximately 0.075 Ft Lbs when exiting the nozzle. The substantial portion by weight of solid material impactors exit the nozzle and contact the formation.

Ein Verfahren zum grabenlosen Leitungsaustausch umfaßt für jede zu sanierende Abschnittslänge die Schritte des Vorantreibens mehrerer verlaufsgesteuerter Bohrungen (18) entlang und nahe des Umfangs der auszutauschenden Leitung (60) bis zu einer Zielgrube (52) hin, das drehstarre Anbringen des Spülkopfes (20) am Bohrgestänge (56) in der Zielgrube (52) und das Zurückziehen des Spülkopfes unter gleichzeitigem Austritt von Spülflüssigkeit bis zu einer Startgrube (50). Anschließend wird die auszutauschende Leitung (60) aus dem Erdkanal herausgezogen und der Erdkanal mit einem Stabilisiermittel verfüllt. Abschließend wird eine neue Leitung (66) eingezogen. Der zur Verwendung gelangende Spülkopf umfaßt eine Anbringeeinrichtung (28) zur drehstarren Befestigung an einem Bohrgestänge, das eine Zugrichtung in Längsrichtung des Bohrgestänges definiert sowie mehrere Austrittsdüsen (24) für Spülflüssigkeit am Spülkopf. Der Spülkopf kann entweder eine im wesentlichen einem Kreissegment entsprechende Querschnittsform senkrecht der Zugrichtung besitzen oder aber im wesentlichen zylinderförmig ausgebildet sein, wobei die Austrittsdüsen im Zylindermantel des Spülkopfes angeordnet sind.
