    摘要: A lightning detection system (10) for detecting a lightning strike are provided. The system includes a lightning detector (12) in a structure susceptible to a lightning strike. The lightning detector includes a data logger (16) configured to log data indicative of a time of occurrence of the lightning strike. The system further includes memory (18) to store data collected from a wide-area lightning detection network (20). The stored data includes at least one characteristic of the lightning strike. A processor (22) may be configured to process data from the data logger relative to data collected from the wide-area lightning detection network to determine correlated data indicative of a lightning strike affecting the structure. In the event correlated data is determined, the processor may be configured to assign the characteristic of the lightning strike to the structure.

    摘要: The invention relates to a device for protecting against the electric effect of a physical phenomenon capable of inducing the ionisation of the medium in which it occurs, such as lightning. The device includes: means (3, 4, 5) for detecting the on-coming physical phenomenon; at least one physical phenomenon collector (1, 2) for collecting the effect of the physical phenomenon; and means (7) for initiating the collection by the collector, capable of generating an ionised channel from the collector and monitored by the detection means. The detection means are electrically insulated from the collector and include a corona effect detector capable of directly detecting a corona effect occurring at the collector. Therefore, by observing the natural ionisation phenomenon or corona effect induced by the on-coming phenomenon and by detecting same, it is possible to trigger the action of the collector at the right moment.

    摘要: A lightning rod system including both methods and specific types of lightning rod protection apparatus, which address the need for lightning rod safety features to deter impalement and minimize injury when humans inadvertently fall upon or strike the projecting air terminal through use of a hebetative contagious impact surface (10) on an end cap(s). The system involves lightning rod system components such as humanized quantal rod (3) or coil spring coupler (13) engineered to be responsive within the range of forces achieved when a human of average size and weight falls onto the projecting air terminal from a standing surface level with that on which the lightning rod system is mounted to. The lightning rod system also involves a method and engineered components to retrofit existing lightning rod assemblies. Additionally, the system components address the need for a safety warning air terminal system to prevent impalement and injury from projecting air terminals that are not designed to be conducive to a lightning strike.
