    摘要: An emergency shutoff valve (20,130,200,300,330) is provided that includes a housing (30,132,210) defining a fluid inlet (50,138,220), a fluid outlet (52,140,222) and fluid flow passage (54,142,224) extending therebetween. The valve includes a valve element (62) disposed within the housing and releasably latched in an open position by a latching mechanism (74,149,229). An expansible member (100,144,252) defines at least a portion of a sealed expansible chamber (108,145,254) that is sealed at locations downstream and upstream of a weakened portion (94,146,242) of the housing. The emergency shutoff valve defines a failure mode wherein the structural integrity of the housing is compromised to an extent wherein fuel can flow into the expansible chamber when a predetermined load is applied to a portion of the housing, wherein the expansible member is operable for uncoupling the latching mechanism so that the valve element moves from the open position to the closed position.

    摘要: An automatically operating valve for use for example in a forecourt fuel pump has a body (10) defining a flow passage (20) within which is formed a valve seat (22), the body having a weakened zone (16) around the flow passage (20) such that an impact on the body will fracture the body at the weakened zone. A valve member (30) is mounted for movement within the flow passage (20) and is engageable with the valve seat (22) to close the valve. A closing mechanism effects movement of the valve member (30) to its closed position in the event that the body (10) is fractured at the weakened zone. Further, the valve member (30) is configured to move to its closed position under the influence of excessive flow of liquid through the flow passage (20).
