An apparatus and method for receiving layered modulation signals is disclosed. A typical method includes receiving a layered modulation signal (602) including an upper layer signal and a lower layer signal, demodulating and decoding (604) the upper layer signal from the received layered modulation signal, estimating an upper layer amplitude factor and an upper layer phase factor (618) from the received layered modulation signal. A substantially ideal upper layer signal is reconstructed from the demodulated and decoded upper layer signal including matching an ideal amplitude and an ideal phase (620) by applying the upper layer amplitude factor and the upper layer phase factor to the reconstructed ideal upper layer signal. Finally, the reconstructed ideal upper layer signal is subtracted from the received layered modulation signal (622) to produce the lower layer signal for processing.

A computer or video game device for generating hand manipulated data. The device consists of one or more sensors that are mounted on the human hand. The sensors are conveniently located for easy access and manipulation by opposing fingers on the same hand that the sensors are mounted on. This arrangement overcomes the limitations of a tabletop computer mouse by not requiring a planar surface, and by not requiring the user to hold onto the device. Additionally the sensors are located in such a way that they do not impede standard office procedures such as using a computer keyboard, writing with a pen, holding a phone, etcetera. The device can also be quickly and easily attached or removed by the user. Various embodiments of the invention include 'wired', 'wireless', multiple finger, universal right or left-hand, universal finger or thumb application, and universal side or top mounted sensors. Existing technologies and manufacturing techniques are utilized to minimize cost. Uses include personal computer, video game, and industrial applications.

In order to make routing more efficient, while maintaining location privacy, an encapsulation cache may be created in access routers that have a trust relationship with the respective home networks of the hosts. The encapsulation cache can be used to store home-address to care-of-address correspondences so that the access router, when a host is roaming, can route a message directly to the message's intended recipient, yet still maintain location privacy for the sending host by replacing the host's care-of address at the roaming network with the host's home address.

When the switch is actuated during the time interval the transmitter (80) is enabled. When the switch is activated outside the time interval the receiver audio is activated so the user may monitor the channel. During the first switch actuation in any given time interval an encoder (100) is enabled. On subsequent switch actuations during the same time interval the encoder is inhibited. This allows a single switch to perform a plurality of transmitter and receiver functions.
