摘要： An adjustable magnifying attachment (20) for a hand held implement is provided. The adjustable magnifying attachment includes a support base (22), an extension arm (26), a lens holder (32), and a magnifying lens (38). The support base has a hole (23) and a slot (24), which is configured to receive a portion of the hand held implement and to secure the support base (22) on the hand held implement. The extension arm (26) has a first end section (27) and a second end section (28). The first end section of the extension arm is snugly mounted in the hole in the base but may still rotate and slide in the hole in the support base (22). The second end section of the extension arm (26) terminates in a clip (30). The lens holder retains the magnifying lens (38) and includes a mounting bracket (34) with a pivot (37) rod that joins a pair of opposed bracket arms (35/36) at a position spaced apart from the lens holder. The pivot rod (37) is secured in the clip (30) of the extension arm (26) so that the lens holder may pivot about the pivot rod (37). The magnifying attachment has a wide range of adjustability even after the magnifying attachment is mounted on a hand held implement. This allows the user to position the magnifying lens near the object being worked on so that best viewing angle and distance can be attained.

A base plate (12) with a front cutting edge is pivotally connected to a top plate (14) with a front cutting edge (18,20) at a central base pivot point. A spring (34) is captured between the plates in a manner that biases the front cutting edges of the trimmer apart until the trimmer is actuated. The top plate has a rear end for receiving and pivotally cooperating with a cammed actuating lever (24), the front end of which is pushed downward/forward to act against the bias of the spring to close the cutting edges to cut a nail. Because the lever arm pivots at a pivot point or axle at or near the rear end of the trimmer, the thumb and finger(s) of the user are positioned at or near the front of the trimmer during use, and therefore, near the nail being trimmed. This results in stable and non-twisting operation. The lever may be swing around the plates of the trimmer to rest below the bottom plate in a compact configuration.
