The purpose of the present invention is to suppress delays in changes in a turning angle with respect to changes in a steering angle, regardless of the type of pump being adopted in an electric hydraulic pressure type steer-by-wire steering system. The steer-by-wire steering system is provided with a hydraulic actuator (6) for changing the turning angle of an object to be steered; a pump (5) for supplying hydraulic pressure to the actuator; an electric motor (4) for rotating the pump in forward and reverse directions; and a control device (3) for controlling the turning angle to be corresponded to a steering angle by operating the motor. The control device is provided with: a motor driving unit for controlling the electric motor to decrease deviations between the steering angle and the turning angle; and a control correction unit for performing changes so as to reduce the time lag between changes in the steering angle and changes in the turning angle, said time lag being derived according to the deviations.

The hydraulic steering unit (2) and the priority valve (3) are arranged in a common housing (9). The hydraulic steering (1) comprises a hydraulic pressure supply port (P), a low pressure port (T), two steering connection ports (L, R) and an excess flow port (EF) to supply an external implement. The priority valve (3) distributes hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic pressure supply port (P) between the hydraulic steering unit (2) and the excess flow port (EF). The task of the invention is to provide a more compact hydraulic steering. To this end the hydraulic pressure supply port (P), the low pressure port (T) and the two steering connection ports (L, R) all enter on the same side of the housing (9), and the priority valve (3) is arranged adjacent to the four ports hydraulic pressure supply port (P), the low pressure port (T) and the two steering connection ports (L, R) with two of the four ports (P, T, L, R) on either side of the priority valve (3).

A hydraulic power steering system for a ground vehicle includes a closed-center control valve, a fluid supply line and an exhaust line extending into the control valve and first and second motor lines extending out of the control valve to a fluid motor. An additional flow line extends from each motor line to the exhaust line and contains a check valve that allows flow in the flow line only towards the motor line. The additional flow lines enable manual steering in the event fluid supply is lost without leakage loss during normal on center operation.
