An automated unspooling mechanism capable of dispensing of knitting material strands in a dynamically-controlled tension on a knitting machine. An unspooling device is configured to sense the tension of a strand fed to the knitting machine, and responsively adjust the strand deployment speed to avoid too little or too much strand dispensing without interrupting the knitting process. The unspooling device includes a variable motor drive that can rotate the strand package in various speeds, and a spring arm trigger that can sense the current tension of the dispensed material. The spring arm trigger can vary its arm position based on the sensed tension. The arm position is then processed and converted to a signal to vary the motor speed. Therefore, the deployment speed of the strands can be dynamically controlled based on a sensed tension of feeding the strand.

A yarn feeding device (4) for a knitting machine comprises a motor (32) for driving a roller (34) from which a yarn (14) is fed out, and a rotatable arm (40) which intermediately stores the yarn (14) fed out from the roller (34), and the yarn (14) is fed from the arm (40) to a knitting machine body (2). A torque generator (38) is provided to apply a variable torque to the arm (40). A yarn speed is obtained from a loop length of a stitch for each knitting needle and a knitting speed calculated on the basis of knitting data (22) used in the knitting machine body (2). The yarn speed is converted into a torque to be applied to a buffer using a conversion table (50) at each knitting section in a knitting course so as to correct a yarn tension fluctuation caused by the yarn speed, and the torque generator (38) is controlled in accordance with the torque thus obtained. The yarn tension fluctuation is reduced so that high-speed knitting and knitting using a weak yarn can be facilitated.

To provide a flatbed knitting machine that can maintain the accuracy for the feed lengths of knitting yarn even when remedial process is performed while the yarn is being fed in a necessary yarn feeding mode. In a flatbed knitting machine 31, the rotational angle of a master roller 10 of a yarn feeding device 6 is detected by an encoder 32. As the tilt angle of a buffer arm 7 approaches the lower limit or the upper limit in the midst of the necessary yarn feeding mode, the mode is switched to a fixed arm angle mode as remedial process. A knitting controller 33 performs stitch adjustment even during remedial process. The length of knitting yarn 4 fed from between the master roller 10 and a slave roller 11 to the buffer arm 7 is calculated on the basis of the difference in the rotational angles detected by the encoder 32. As shown in (b), the timing of measurement by the encoder 32 at which the knitting controller 33 performs stitch adjustment in the fixed arm angle mode corresponds to the inside of the knitting width.
