The method includes: determining, by a terminal device, a random access preamble, where the random access preamble includes six symbol groups; determining, by the terminal device, a frequency location of the random access preamble based on random access configuration information and a preset rule, where a frequency hopping interval between a first symbol group and a second symbol group and a frequency hopping interval between a fifth symbol group and a sixth symbol group are equal and both are first intervals, a frequency hopping interval between the second symbol group and a third symbol group and a frequency hopping interval between a fourth symbol group and the fifth symbol group are equal and both are second intervals, and a frequency hopping interval between the third symbol group and the fourth symbol group is a third interval; and sending, by the terminal device, the random access preamble based on the frequency location. According to the communication method in this application, the terminal device determines a frequency hopping pattern of the random access preamble, to send the random access preamble and perform random access.

摘要: Techniques for frequency-hopping sequence-generation are described herein. In one example, a sequence of pseudo random numbers may be used to generate a scrambling sequence. The scrambling sequence may be used to map an unscrambled sequence of channels into a scrambled sequence of channels. Channel-repeats may be detected in the scrambled sequence of channels and resolved. Channel whitening may be performed to reduce channel overuse resulting from the channel-repeat resolutions. The scrambled sequence of channels may be provided to a radio to enable the radio to tune to the channels indicated by the scrambled sequence of channels.
