    摘要: Previously shielded image intensifier faceplates have been manufactured by a method which has a number of disadvantages, requiring difficult and expensive machining, and introducing distortions.
    These may be overcome by employing the invention, where a clear glass disc 13 and a black glass disc 14 are placed in a graphite mould 15 and located so that they fuse and form a block having a shape conforming to the internal configuration of the mould. Then the block need only be ground down to size and unwanted parts of the black glass removed.

    摘要: A display arrangement consists of one or more elongate display devices (1,2), each of which has a number of separately energisable display areas (3) positioned along its length. When energised, each display area (3) is seen as a bright patch of light. As it is very difficult to arrange that the display areas (3) extend right to the extreme ends of the device, optical deflection means (7) are positioned in front of the display areas (3) to magnify the size of each so that the total display area extends over the whole length of the elongate display device. The optical deflection means (7) is arranged so that each bright path is of substantially the same size. The invention enables a large number of similar elongate display devices (1,2) to be placed end to end whilst avoiding the appearance of periodic dark patches at the ends of adjacent devices.

The layer is formed in such a way that a bronze-like ordered lattice is formed, containing molybdenum, tungsten and oxygen ions.

    摘要: The determination of some spatial characteristic, such as size and shape, of an object can be effected by viewing the object with a television (video) camera, forming an image of the object on a television screen, superimposing onto the formed image a set of measurement markers (or cursors) whose true spatial positions are known, and moving the cursors about to bracket the object image and thus indicate its - and so the object's - real size. However, using conventional television systems employing standard cameras of the vidicon type there are problems in knowing exactly where a generated cursor actually is. These problems can be overcome, though, by using a camera that employs an image sensor in the form of an accurately constructed array of very small sensing elements - as typified by present-day Charge Coupled Device (CCD) image sensors. In essence, it is possible to mix a signal defining one or more marker (cursor) with the array sensor camera output - for example, a pair of horizontal and a pair of vertical cursor lines corresponding to the array's rows and columns of light-sensitive elements whose true positions are of course known with great accuracy and thus allow precise measurements to be taken of the viewed object.

    摘要: A discharge tube, for example, a thyratron, in accordance with the invention is generally cylindrical in structure having a first electrode (5) arranged co-­axially about a second electrode (6). Thus in a thyratron the anode may surround the cathode or vice versa. The envelope may be tubular having an aperture at its centre. In another aspect of the invention, a discharge tube arrangement including an envelope and a first electrode arranged co-axially about a second electrode, is constructed such that it is capable of being added to another such arrangement. Thus a plurality of such arrangements may be added together to produce a thyratron capable of large current conduction.
