The invention relates to rutile titanium dioxide pigment particles which are capable of reflecting infrared radiation to a high degree and of exhibiting pigmenting properties, and also to a method for producing them. The particles have an average size of 0.4 to 1.0 μm and are doped with zinc and potassium, but not with aluminium. The particles have a stocky shape with a preferred side ratio of 1.5:1. The particles are produced preferably by the known sulphate process for producing titanium dioxide, and after having been calcined are optionally given an organic and/or inorganic aftertreatment. The rutile titanium dioxide particles of the invention are suitable for producing heat insulation paints, varnishes or plastics and also, for example, for producing renders or paving stones.

The invention relates to a method for photocatalytically precipitating a dispersed material from a tenside dispersion. The tenside dispersion comprises at least one dispersing agent, a dispersed material, a tenside, and a photocatalyst. Titanium dioxide is in particular suitable as a photocatalyst that is photoactive in the ultraviolet range and optionally also in the visible spectral range. The dispersing agent is preferably water or an aqueous fluid. Perfluoridated tensides (PFT), among others, are also suitable as a tenside. The method is characterized in that in particular temperature-sensitive materials, such as polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) can be precipitated in a simple manner.

The invention relates to a method for coating the surface of inorganic solid particles in an aqueous suspension, in particular for coating titanium dioxide with SiO 2 . The method comprises the steps: a) deagglomeration of the solid particles situated in an aqueous suspension, b) addition of a water-soluble precursor compound of the coating substance to the suspension, c) homogenization of the suspension in a dispersion apparatus immediately following step b), wherein, in steps a) to c), temperature and pH of the suspension do not change significantly, d) transport of the suspension into a container and precipitation of the coating substance onto the particle surface and optionally application of further coatings, e) removing the solid particles from the suspension. The method leads to a very uniform and closed sheath on the particle surface and to less coating substance which is precipitated out separately.

The invention relates to the production of titanium dioxide by oxidating titanium tetrachloride in a multi-step method, wherein oxygen and titanium tetrachloride are dosed in several steps. In the first step, gaseous TiCI4 is introduced stochiometrically or hyperstochiometrically into a preheated oxygen-containing gas flow in order to produce a TiO2 -containing gas suspension. In the second or other steps, liquid TiCI4 and oxygen-containing gas are intriduced into the TiO2-containing gas suspension, in order to produce additional TiO2. In one embodiment of the invention, TiCI4 and oxygen-containing gas are added at a temperature of under about 50 °C in the second or other steps. Said invention is energy saving compared to other known methods known from the prior art.

The invention relates to the production of titanium dioxide by oxygenating titanium tetrachloride and then cooling the titanium dioxide particle-gas mixture while adding scouring particles in a cooling section, the gas-particle flow being made to rotate. According to the invention, the titanium tetrachloride is introduced into the axial oxygen-containing flow on the cross-sectional plane of the tubular reactor, but not in the radial direction. The flow velocity of the oxygen-containing gas exceeds 20 m/s, particularly reaching at least 40 m/s. The method according to the invention makes it possible to effectively remove accumulated TiO2 from the internal wall and the cooling section of the tubular reactor, thus increasing the cooling performance, and produce a TiO2 pigment which has a narrow grain size distribution.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Zusatzmittel zur Chromatreduktion in Zement auf Basis Filtersalz. Filtersalz als Nebenprodukt der Titandioxidherstellung nach dem Sulfatverfahren besteht i.w. aus Fe(II)sulfat-Monohydrat und freier Schwefelsäure (etwa 12 bis 30 Gew.-%). Das Zusatzmittel enthält Filtersalz entweder als wässrige Lösung oder in einer pulverförmigen Mischung mit einem Trägermaterial, z.B. Kalkhydrat, Kalksteinmehl oder gefällter Kieselsäure. Bezogen auf das Filtersalz werden 5 bis 20 Gew.-% Trägermaterial eingesetzt. Darüber hinaus kann die Mischung auch Grünsalz (Fe(II)sulfat-Heptahydrat) enthalten, bevorzugt in einem Verhältnis Filtersalz zu Grünsalz von 2 : 1.

A highly effective photocatalyst active in daylight and based on carbon-modified titanium dioxide (vlp-TiO2) is disclosed, as well as a process for producing the same. The vlp-TiO2 is produced by mixing a finely divided titanium compound (BET ≥ 50 m2/g) with a carbon-containing substance, then by thermally treating it at temperatures of up to 400 °C. The carbon content ranges from 0.05 to 4 % by weight, preferably from 0.4 to 0.8 % by weight. The product is characterised by an only insignificant ESR signal in a g value range from 1.97 to 2.05, at about 2003. The claimed photocatalyst is suitable for the mineralisation (oxidation) of impurities and pollutants in liquids and gasses.
