摘要: An intravascular stent (fig. 10) especially suited for implanting in curved arterial portions. The stent (fig. 10) is formed of intertwined meander patterns forming triangular cells (804). The triangular cells (804) are adapted to provide radial support, and longitudinal flexibility after expansion. The triangular cells (804) provide increased coverage of a vessel wall. The stent (fig. 10) can have different portions adapted to optimize radial support or to optimize longitudinal flexibility. The stent (fig. 10) is curved and cells on the outside of the curve open in length, but narrow in width whereas cells on the inside of the curve shorten in length but thicken in width to maintain a density of stent element area which much more constant than otherwise between the inside and the outside of the curve. As a result, when the stent is coated with a medicine the more constant density of stent elements results in an even dose being applied to the inside wall of the lumen, avoiding the possibility that a toxic dose be supplied at one area while a less than effective dose is applied to another area.

摘要: To prevent tissue ingrowth between wire coils (80) of a stent, when deployed in a body vessel, the coils (80) are encased in an envelope (82) of plastics material which allows the stent to be wound tightly on a catheter for deployment and also forms a continuous surface or wall when the stent is unwound. The envelope includes extension (82) for each coil (80) of the wire, which extension overlaps the neighbouring coil when the stent is tightly wound and undeployed, but extends between the coil and its neighbour when the stent is deployed and unwound.

摘要: Embodiments of a stent system include a catheter (13) is made with only one lumen (17) leading to a balloon (15). An arrangement is provided to easily lock a short wire in place at the distal end of the balloon. Multiple wires (27,27a,27b) of different properties can be included in a package containing the stent and the delivery catheter, such that the physician will be able to choose the right wire tip according to the lesion and vessel treated and attach it at the distal tip of the balloon before beginning the stenting procedure.

摘要: There is disclosed a stent for implanting in the body. The stent is formed of a tube having a patterned shape which has first and second meander patterns having axes extending in first and second directions. The first meander patterns can be formed into even and odd first meander patterns. The even and odd first meander patterns are 180° out of phase with each other and the odd patterns occur between every two even patterns. The second meander patterns are intertwined with the first meander patterns. The first and second directions can be orthogonal to each other. The second meander patterns can also be formed of even and odd patterns.

摘要: A stent (20) is made from a wire by winding the wire on a mandrel (22), heating to form a coiled spring, and reversing the winding direction of the coiled spring to form the reversed coiled spring stent (20). The stent so formed may be reheated over a special mandrel so as to partly relax the outer portion of some or all of the stent coils. The stent may be made up of two or more sections, with adjoining sections wound in opposite senses. Such a stent may be deployed by winding the stent onto a catheter, immobilizing the two ends of the wire and one or more intermediate points, bringing the stent to the location where it is to be deployed, and releasing first the intermediate point or points and then the end points. The release of the wire may be accomplished by heating the thread immobilizing the wire so that the thread breaks and releases the wire.

摘要: A serpentine coiled ladder stent is provided, in which the coil is formed from a wound strip of cells, wherein the sides of the cells are serpentine. Thus, the stent is comprised of a strip helically wound into a series of coiled windings, wherein the strip is formed of at least two side bands connected to each other, for example by a series of cross struts. Each side band is formed in a serpentine pattern comprising a series of bends, wherein upon expansion of the stent, the bends of the side bands open to increase the length of each of the individual cells in the helical direction, thereby lengthening the strip in the helical direction to allow the stent to expand without any significant unwinding of the strip.

摘要: A stent and a method for fabricating the stent are disclosed. The stent has an originally flat pattern and connection points (38,28) where the sides of the flat pattern are joined. The method includes the steps of a) cutting a stent pattern into a flat piece of metal thereby to produce a metal pattern, b) deforming the metal pattern so as to cause two opposing sides to meet, and c) joining the two opposing sides at least at one point. Substantially no portion of the stent projects into the lumen of the stent when the stent is expanded against the internal wall of a blood vessel.
