    摘要: A cardiac constraint jacket is formed of flexible material defining a volume between an open upper end and a lower end. The jacket is dimensioned for an apex of a patient's heart to be inserted into the volume through the open upper end and for the jacket to be slipped over the heart. A delivery device is used to place the jacket on the heart. The delivery device includes a plurality of attachment locations. Each of the attachment locations is releasably secured to separate positions surrounding a periphery of the open upper end of the jacket. The delivery device also includes a control arrangement which is selectively movable between an open position and a closed position. The control arrangement is connected to the attachment locations such that the attachment locations are in a compact array urging the open upper end of the jacket into a collapsed configuration when the control member is in the closed position. When the control arrangement is in the open position, the attachment locations are in an open array. The attachment locations urge the open upper end of the jacket into an open configuration sufficient for the heart to be inserted into the jacket volume through the open upper end and for the jacket to be slipped over said heart.

    摘要: Emulsions containing a hydrocarbon liquid in a continuous phase and alcohol and/or water in a dispersed phase. The emulsions are stabilised by an emulsifier and a coupling agent. The emulsifier is a copolymer containing at least one relatively hydrophobic polymeric block of styrene or ring substituted styrene monomer, and at least one relatively hydrophilic polymeric block of at least one monomer, such as ethylene oxide, selected from the group having the formula H(O-R)nOH where R is an aliphatic radical containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and n is a number between 20 and 300. The coupling agent is a copolymer containing at least one polymeric block of styrene or ring substituted styrene monomer, and at least one block being of a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon moiety, such as butadiene. The emulsifier is present in an amount sufficient to form micelles of the relatively hydrophilic polymer block sufficient to contain the dispersed phase and the coupling agent is present in an amount that is sufficient to substantially prevent the dispersed phase droplets from coalescing while not being present in a sufficiently high amount that micelles of the styrene containing polymeric blocks of the coupling agent form in the continuous phase of the emulsion.

    摘要: Apparatus for measuring heat flux comprises first and second sensors (6a, 6b) arranged to pass through an oven in line astern. Each sensor (6a, 6b) comprises means for measuring the temperature difference across a thermally insulating layer, one surface of the sensor (6a, 6b) being exposed to the heat flux, and each sensor (6a, 6b) includes means (11a, 11b) for measuring the temperature of the exposed surface. The first sensor (6a) is radiation-absorbing and the second sensor (6b) is reflecting. The apparatus includes means (13a, 13b) for measuring the gas temperature and means for recording data from the sensors (6a, 6b) and from the means (13a, 13b), and the signals from one of the sensors (6a) at one instant are correlated with the corresponding signals from the other sensor (6b) at a later instant, the time difference being the time taken for one sensor (6a) to reach a position formerly occupied by the other sensor (6b).

    摘要: A process for producing fried food products comprises feeding a dough to a nip between a pair of contra-rotating rollers (10, 11) arranged with their curved surfaces in contact with each other, each of the rollers having grooves (10a, 11a) indented in its curved surface. The rollers (10, 11) push the dough into the grooves (10a, 11a) and form the dough into a lattice comprising an array of ridges imparted to the dough by one of the rollers, which ridges are spaced apart from each other and extend in substantially the same direction as each other, and an array of ridges imparted to the dough by the other roller, which ridges are spaced apart from each other and extend in substantially the same direction as each other, the direction in which the ridges of one array extend being at an angle to that of the other array so that the ridges of one array intersect the ridges of the other, and the contacting portions of the curved surfaces of the rollers provide apertures in the dough between the intersecting ridges. The process further comprises cutting portions from the dough lattice and frying the portions to provide food products having a lattice configuration.
