The invention relates to a process for producing hydrogen by a water dissociation reaction using solar radiation in a treatment chamber, this process comprising: a) concentrating the solar radiation in order to obtain a radiation intensity suitable for inducing photochemical water vapour dissociation reactions; b) subjecting at least one photocatalytic target to the concentrated solar radiation; c) dissociating the water vapour molecules from a boundary layer in contact with the surfaces of said at least one target into hydrogen and oxygen; d) selectively extracting in situ the hydrogen produced by means of at least one hydrogen-selective extraction membrane. It especially applies to the production of hydrogen in the space field and in the transport field.
