In the cleaning of a humid gas flow containing gaseous impurities, the gas flow is dehumidified by cooling. The cooled gas flow is reheated and then conducted through a device (7') for the adsorption of gaseous impurities. A desorption-gas flow is heated so as to form a hot-gas flow, which is conducted through the adsorption device (7') in order to clean the latter. The contaminated hot-gas flow is conducted to a combustion device (10') in order to be burnt. Hot combustion gases are removed from the combustion device (10') in order to take part in at least one of the heating processes by being introduced into and mixed with the cooled gas flow and the desorption-gas flow.

A method and an apparatus for cleaning a flue-gas stream containing hydrogen chloride and sulphur dioxide are disclosed. The flue gas is treated in a wet cleaner (5), thereafter injected with lime (9) and filtered through a filter (13). The method and the apparatus are distinguished by the fact that a part of the flue-gas stream is bypassed the wet cleaner (5) through a conduit (15), to join the remainder of the flue-gas stream before the filter (13). In this way, hydrogen chloride in the bypassed stream is reacted with injected lime to form calcium chloride, which promotes the sulphur-dioxide separation upon the injection of lime.

A smoke control system for ships with at least two sections (22, 23), isolated from each other by bulkheads and decks. The system includes at least one fan unit (17; 18), air distributors (20, 21) for supply of fresh-air respective evacuation of consumed air from said sections, ducts (24) that connect the fan unit and the air distributors with each other and at least one fire detector (13) arranged in each section. A release of state of alert via a supervision unit (10) selectively generates a forced flue gas extraction from one or several sections in the ship and increases selectively the atmospheric pressure in other sections. The smoke control system includes extra, normally inactive exhausting points (25) for flue gas, arranged individually or in groups within each section which are selectively possible to activate via the supervision unit (10). The ordinary air conditioning system's flow and pressure in the exhaust air duct are reversed by detection of a state of fire. Flow and pressure in the intake air duct are kept at such levels so that spreading of smoke through them is prevented, from one accommodation to another.

A method and an apparatus for cleaning sulphurdioxide-containing gas, such as flue gas, are disclosed. In the method, the sulphur-dioxide-containing gas (1) is treated in a scrubber (2) with a washing liquid (3) which is circulated in a primary circuit (5). From the primary circuit (5), a partial flow is drawn off through a conduit (11) to a secondary circuit (12) for regeneration by means of the so-called indirect lime method. The invention is distinguished by a cooling circuit (25) which is connected to the secondary circuit (12) and in which a partial amount of washing liquid drawn off from the secondary circuit is treated by cooling in a cooling tank (27) to a temperature below 30°C, preferably below 5°C, for the precipitation of sodium sulphate. After the separation of precipitated sodium sulphate, the washing liquid is further treated in a tank (32) for the precipitation of more sulphate by the addition of a calcium-ion source (33), preferably consisting of calcium carbonate sludge from the secondary circuit (12). After the separation of precipitated calcium sulphate, the treated liquid now having a reduced sulphate content below about 300 mg/l is drawn off from the cooling circuit (25).

With increasing inlet pressure an increasing number of inlet orifices (64) are utilized for an increasing number of part-streams. The gas flow is passed from respective inlet orifices (64) through connecting means (24, 26, 28) to outlet orifices (31) located at a considerably higher height level (h) than corresponding inlet orifices (64). The gas flow is caused to flow out through venturi nozzles (28) and/or to strike against impinger or striking surfaces (39) with a minimum pressure drop corresponding to said height differential (h). In this way full operational pressure is immediately achieved, as soon as gas is passed out through any of the inlet orifices (64), and an intense mixing of gas and liquid as well as a high cleansing efficiency are guaranteed.

The tunnel-shaped arrangement is longitudinally divided into a number of sections each of which is provided with a plurality, preferably 60-250, of nozzles (7, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25) which are substantially evenly distributed over the curved inner surface of the section and through which the gases are supplied and blown against the vehicle or the parts thereof passing through the arrangement, the pressure drop of the gases is measured across the nozzles and the temperature of the gases before the nozzles. The measured pressure drop values are then compared with predetermined desired values corresponding to the prevailing temperature, whereupon a pressure increase or a pressure reduction signal is supplied to a first pressure changing means (29) for supplying the gases to the arrangement (1), depending on whether the measured values are below or above the desired values.

An apparatus for purification of gases comprises a combustion device, through which a gas is intended to be conducted for combustion and/or conversion of contaminants in the gas. Means are provided to conduct the contaminated gas in one direction (3) through one part (5) of the combustion device (2) and in opposite direction (7) through a second part (9) of the combustion device. As an alternative, the oppositely directed flow can be constituted of a second medium. Said means and/or the combustion device are designed such that each of said opposition directed flows will successively pass through different parts of the combustion device.
