    摘要: tire curing press with an improved loader includes a shaping or center mechanism which includes a vertically movable well (17) on which is mounted the bottom bead or toe ring (16). The press includes a loader of improved design affording precision centering and accuracy which is driven for vertical movement by a ball screw (80) and nut drive which positions the green tire concentric with the upper and lower mold sections and over the bottom bead ring. The loader then moves the green tire downwardly until the lower bead of the green tire reaches a predetermined point touching or fairly closely adjacent the elevated bead ring. Simultaneously, an adjustable pad on the loader contacts the tip of an extended rod of a vertically oriented synchronizer piston-cylinder assembly (147 Concurrently, a sensor is tripped to power the synchronizer piston downwardly and as such piston moves downwardly, the loader follows at a slightly higher speed causing the rotary motor of the ball screw drive to be retarded or stall, thus keeping the loader in contact with the tip of the rod of the synchronizer cylinder assembly. As the synchronizer piston is being powered down, fluid on the underside of such piston is being forced over to the top ports of a pair of beat lift cylinder assemblies (24, 25) causing them to bring the well(17) andtbus the lower bead ring down at the-same speed as the loader is bringing the tire down. In this manner the green tire and lower bead ring are maintained in constant relationship until the bead ring is seated on the lower mold section. The point of bead ring seating provides a physical stop which in turn blocks the synchronizer piston and rod, and thus the loader from further downward travel. This synchronization is accomplished by making the blind end area of the piston of the synchronizing cylinder assembly twice the equal rod end areas of the pistons of the bead lift cylinders.

    摘要: A tire building machine and method employing a tire building drum (21) for receiving at least one ply of tire material (79) having an edge overhanging an axial end (23) of the drum, a bladder turn-up mechanism (28) extending axially outwardly from the drum, an annular array of radially contractible ply-down fingers (56) movable axially to and from a position encircling the overhanging ply edge, and an axially movable ring device operative first to effect radial contraction of the ply-down fingers to turn the ply edge down over the end of the drum, then to set a tire bead (77) against the turned down ply edge at the end of the drum, and then to push the bladder (42) of the turn-up mechanism when inflated to cause the ply edge to be progressively wrapped around the bead and then over the drum. In addition to a bead setting ring (74) and a ply-down finger camming ring (75), the ring mechanism includes a contoured bladder control ring (76) operative axially to push and radially to restrain the bladder, developed pressure in the bladder being reduced after contact is made with the control ring and then held at reduced pressure to allow the control ring to force the bladder to wrap around the bead and roll over the drum thereby to continue progressive wrapping of the ply edge around the bead and then over the drum with a bulge (82) in the bladder forming in front of the axially inwardly moving control ring. Thereafter, the pressure in the bladder is further reduced, particularly in the case of long ply locks, to continue rolling of the bladder at the bulged portion to provide maximum ply lock with relatively low pressure sustained in the bladder. Finally, the bladder is reinflated while simultaneously retracting the control ring.

    摘要: A belt, band or other tire component folding machine and method are characterized by a rotatable and expandable drum (46) comprising a substantially rigid cylinder deck (56) having a precisely formed peripheral deck edge (174) and an inflatable bladder assembly (60) positioned slightly axially and radially inwardly subjacent the deck edge which cooperate to define a precise fold line along the deck edge at which a ply or belt band or the like is precisely and sharply folded. Preferably, dual inflatable bladders are employed at each end of the deck, one bladder being contiguous to the other and arranged on inflation to walk up the precisely formed and contoured deck edge to turn up the overhanging band end, and the other arranged to push the first bladder axially inwardly to complete the fold of the band flat upon itself. A preferred form of deck comprises a plurality of readily replaceable segments (120) which are mounted in a self- aligning manner on a radially expandable and rotatable hub. Each segment includes a pair of interfitting outer deck sections (140,142) which are movable axially of the drum towards and away from each other to expand and contract the width of the deck In precise increments. Various forms of the deck further comprise spring gap shields (182) or elastic gap spanning bands (184) which circumscribe the deck at the deck edges. The various components are readily interchangeable with components of different sizes and adjustable to accommodate different sizes of tire components.

    摘要: A tire building machine of the expandable bead lock type employs an elastomeric specially shaped radially expanding bead lock (52, 53) which includes an air passage system therethrough. The bead locks are expanded by a pneumatic tube (137) which seats the bead lock against reentrant shoulder stops securing the bead locks in their expanded condition both precisely radially and axially with respect to the two centerlines of the machine. Such bead locks may be used in connection with an expandable axially fixed center deck (39) for first stage operations or in connection with a substantially rigid axially expandable and contractible center deck for single stage operations. The bead locks may also be employed for second stage operations. For a single stage machine, the preferred form of center deck includes axially oppositely extending fingers which slide in respective slots in the center support forming a substantially rigid working surface, In connection with single and first stage operations, the bead locks may include integrally formed shaping bladders (48) which are inflated through the air passage system in the bead locks. An additional (49) bladder may be employed at each end of the machine cooperating with the bladder formed integrally with the bead locks for turning tire components about the beads and for assembling components such as sidewalls to the carcass when in a toroidal shape. The bladders are specially constructed and molded so that the components may be wrapped or applied tangentially and sequentially from the bead outwardly to avoid distortion. Components of the machine, whether used as a single stage, first stage, or second stage machine are common.

    摘要: A tire building machine comprises a number of modular packages which can be used interchangeably in single stage, second stage, or first stage tire component assembly. Some of the modular components are particularly useful in the manufacture of larger or truck type tires but can also be used in the automatic or semi-automatic production of smaller passenger size tires. One of the principal modular components is a carriage mounted device for transfer of components such as bands or belt and tread assemblies, or finished tires, which also functions as a bead setter and as a retractable two-position idle journal support for the non-driven end of the main shaft of the tire building drum or shaper. The shaft supports a wide variety of shapers or drums for single, first or second stage building. The device is mounted for movement to and from the shaper or drum and includes a support arm which moves in a circular arc to assume and maintain various positions during various periods in the machine cycle. For certain types of shapers, the device provides support and means -for automatic removal and replacement of the outboard bead seal flange. A bead setter is supported on the device and is adjustable omnidirectionally to obtain concentricity and squareness and is also adjustable axially for accurate bead placement symmetrically about the axis centerline of the shaper or drum and thus the tire being built. A bead gripper, actuated by fluid power, automatically rotates clear of the bead flippers or apex and clamps the tire bead securely and squarely to ensure accurate bead placement while transferring the tire bead to its selected location. A retractable positive intermediate stop is employed to position the carriage of the device to perform its various functions. A wide variety of arrangements of the components may be employed performing various tire building processes for different types and sizes of tires.

    摘要: A tire curing press has a loader assembly comprising a bead grip for engaging and lifting the axial interior of the upper bead of a green tire and a tread positioning ring movable axially to an adjusted position to engage the tire tread shoulder and to force a predetermined distance between the upper bead and tread to identify precisely the transaxial middle or crown plane of the tread. The loader includes means to swing the bead grip and tread register from a tire pick-up position to a load position centered in the press and to position the lower bead of the green tire on or close to a movable toe ring, and then to lower the bead grip, tread register and toe ring uniformly with the green tire held open and firmly therebetween to match the transaxial middle plane of the tread to that of a bladder mounted in a center mechanism in the press by independently movable top and bottom bladder bead clamps. Adjustable mechanical stops and pilots are utilized for obtaining precise alignment of the movable press components with respect to one another and for accommodating different sizes of tires being processed. The center mechan- i ism is mounted in a movable mounting sleeve, the upper end i of which supports the toe ring. The sleeve is mounted in a well and the bottom plate of the mounting well is provided with passages for circulation of coolant therethrough to isolate the center mechanism hydraulic actuators mounted on and beneath such plate from the heat generated in the press cavity.
