摘要： A recyclable tape reel which is a one-piece, integrally molded member, including: a lower, planar, continuous flange; a central hub connected to the lower flange; an upper, planar continuous flange attached to the hub; and a reel spring molded integrally of the upper end of the tape reel. A leader clip can be formed separately and assembled on the hub, or can be integrally molded of the hub. The leader clip and reel spring can be formed together as one piece and attached to the hub, or they can be molded together integrally of the hub. The dust door can be removed but the dust door metal spring remains in the cassette. However, the cassette base includes an opening to allow the metal dust door to fall out of the cassette spring. The cassette base includes openings to disengage the leader clip from outside the tape cassette, thereby allowing the tape and leader to be removed from the cassette without opening the cassette. All parts of the cassette, except the dust door spring and tape, are made of the same plastic material which can be recycled as one piece once the tape and dust door spring are removed without opening the tape cassette. The thickness of the cassette walls is less than conventional, but supports are added at the walls to reinforce the cassette. Also, the supports contain radial and vertical movement of the tape reels.

摘要： An apparatus for storing a plurality of disc-shaped recording media includes a housing (12) and a plurality of thin, substantially C-shaped lever members (22), each of which has an inner circumferential surface (30) for holding a disc-shaped recording media (58) by an outer circumferential surface of the recording media. Each lever member is pivotally connected to the housing by a pivot post (56) and is pivotally movable into and out of the housing. A lock mechanism (78) prevents the lever members from pivoting out of the housing, while a detent mechanism (66) holds the unlocked lever members in either a closed or open position. The inner circumferential surface of the C-shaped lever members subtends an angle greater than 180° in order to create a spring force in two arms of the lever member, the spring force acting to hold the disc-shaped recording media on the circumferential surface of the lever member.

摘要： An internal, self-locking hub assembly (69,71) for a compact, audio, tape cassette (62) is described including a locking member (80) with two movable portions (92,94) and a spring (82,84). The tape cassette includes receptacles (122) formed in a raised annular ring (118) thereof. The spring normally forces the two movable portions radially inward in a direction parallel to the plane of the hub, wherein the two movable portions engage the receptacles in the raised annular ring, and lock the hub against rotation. On the other hand, when the tape cassette is placed into a tape player/­recorder, the spindle thereof enters the center of the hub, abuts and moves the two movable portions radially outward against the force of the spring thereby unlocking the two movable portions from the receptacles and permitting normal rotation of the hub. A related method includes the steps of: forming the locking member to include two movable portions, a spring and a locating member; picking up the locking member; forming a hub to include a mounting member corresponding to the locating member; advancing the locking member to the hub; inserting the locking member into the hub such that the locating member is fixedly received by the mounting member; mounting the hub into a cassette base; forming a cassette cover to include the receptacles; positioning the cassette cover on the base, such that the receptables receive the two movable portions.

摘要： A tape cassette (79) has a separate, plastic molded, elongated, tape guide subassembly (80), which incorporates two bearing extensions (116,118) integrally molded at the left and right ends thereof. Each bearing extension has a pair of opposing, parallel, planar members (120,122) extending from support members (123) each of which is parallel to the planar top and bottom of the tape guide subassembly. Each planar member includes a roller receiving means (124) integrally formed therein and the rotational axles for the tape rollers (110) are either integrally molded as part of the bearing extension or the tape roller itself. The planar members in each pair have the ability to flex only in the direction perpendicular to their planes, allowing the rollers to be easily snapped into place during assembly. Once the rollers are inserted into the tape guide subassembly, the latter is assembled into the front of the tape cassette, wherein the rollers form part of the central tape support area of the tape cassette. Related methods are also described for manufacturing the tape guide subassembly and the whole cassette.
