The invention relates to goniochromatic luster pigments which are based on titanium dioxide-coated siliceous platelets heated in a reductive atmosphere. Said luster pigments contain at least one multilayer consisting of A) a colourless coating with a refractive index n ≤ 1.8 and B) a coating containing iron (III) oxide which absorbs visible light selectively, with a refractive index n ≥ 2.0. The invention also relates to the production and use of these pigments.

Goniochromatic bright pigments based on plate-like metallic substrates coated several times have at least one group of layers, namely (A) a layer substantially made of silicium oxide, silicium oxide hydrate, aluminium oxide and/or aluminium oxide hydrate, and (B) a non-selectively absorbing, metal sulphide-containing layer that is at least partially transparent to visible light, and optionally (C) an additional outer layer substantially made of colourless or selectively absorbing metal oxide. Also disclosed is the production and use of said pigments for colouring lacquers, printing or other inks, plastics, glass, ceramic products and decorative cosmetic compositions.
