At least one shim (12, 22, 23) is located at at least one of four corner areas (10a, 10b; 20a, 20b) of the metal plate without extending outwardly from the corner area where the shim is located. The shim supports a tightening pressure of bolts to thereby prevent deformation of the cylinder head. Sealing means for the cylinder bores and other holes can be equally compressed to help sealing of the cylinder bores and other holes.
