A main bead (16) is formed in the plate to surround the hole, and has a first head portion (16a) located above the base portion. Two auxiliary beads (17) are formed in the plate to sandwich the main bead therebetween. Each auxiliary bead (17) has a second head portion (17a) located below the base portion and a height (HB) less than a height (HA) of the main bead (16). When the gasket is tightened, the surface pressures are concentrated at the head portions to secure seal around the hole and to provide balanced surface pressures.

A metal gasket (A) of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine, and is basically formed of a metal plate for constituting the gasket. The metal plate includes a hole (H) and a bead around the hole (H) for sealing therearound. A first coating layer (A11) is formed on at least a part of an upper surface of the metal plate (A10) except an upper portion of the bead. Thus, when the gasket is used, reduction of a surface pressure formed on the bead is prevented while fluid flowing through the hole (H) is prevented by the bead and the first coating layer (A11). The metal plate may be combined with one or more metal plates to constitute a metal laminate gasket.
