    摘要: The present invention includes a method for the collection of a profile of a printing press during a production press run. The method includes printing a colorbar onto a web during a production press run and measuring the color of a plurality of the color patches within the colorbar to provide a profile of the press. In designing the colorbar, several factors are considered. Exemplary design factors include the need to sample the entire ink color gamut, the need for landmark patches for each ribbon of the web for quality control and diagnostic purposes, the desire for contiguous patches to be dissimilar in reflectance, and the handling of webs with narrow widths. The press profile also includes press data such as time, date, paper type, ink formulation, ink temperatures, ink viscosity, customer, press identifier, and the like. By acquiring press profiles during production runs of the press, profiles can be obtained inexpensively and under numerous printing conditions.

    摘要: An adaptive control system is intended for use in conjunction with a printing press to control the setting of an ink control device that regulates the amount of ink applied to a substrate. The control system includes a controller for calculating a new setting for the ink control device based on a measured ink color value and a target ink color value. The controller has at least one gain parameter. The control system also includes a sensitivity adapter in communication with the controller. The sensitivity adapter modifies the gain parameter in response to the sensitivity of the ink control device to a correction in setting issued by the controller. The control system operates so that a measured ink color value on the substrate converges toward a target ink color value.

    摘要: An ink supply system (10) for ink jet printers, the ink supply system including a closed ink supply tank (11) for containing ink and solvent, a condenser (32) to cool air from a tube, and a tube (26) having connected to the air space of the ink supply tank (11) and the condenser such that air containing evaporated solvent from the tube is cooled by the condenser (32) such that solvent in the air will condense. Preferably, the condenser (32) is positioned above the ink supply tank (11) so that condensed solvent drains into the ink supply tank. Preferably, a solvent make up container (16) is connected to the ink supply tank (11) for supplying solvent to the ink supply tank, and an equalizing conduit connects the solvent make up container (16) airspace to one of the ink supply tank airspace and the tube to provide for equalization of the fluid pressure between the solvent make up container (16) and the ink supply tank (11). Preferably, a solvent supply device (20) supplies solvent to the solvent make up container (16). The solvent supply device includes a solvent supply container (21) for containing solvent, a support device for supporting the solvent supply container and a conduit connecting the solvent supply container (21) to the solvent make up container (16) such that solvent can be supplied to the solvent make up container (16) from the solvent supply container (21) without venting the solvent make up container to the atmosphere. Also, a solvent recovery system for recovery of solvent contained in solvent containing liquids is provided.
