    摘要: A preferred surgical anchor includes an elongated body with a proximal end and a distal end, a passage extending at least partially through the body from the proximal end, and at least one hole extending at least partially through the body that communicates with the passage. The passage and the at least one hole are configured so that a material is receivable in the passage, preferably, at the proximal end of the elongated body. So configured, the material may be delivered through the passage, through the at least one hole, and into the skeletal member. Additionally, a cutting member preferably is arranged at the distal end of the elongated body, with the cutting member being configured to enable penetration of the at least a portion of the elongated body into the skeletal member. Systems and methods also are provided.

    摘要: Apparatus for use in surgery for the correction or alleviation of spinal defects, comprises a number of pedicle screws and associated parts including a common correction rod clamped between the screws. Each screw has a slotted head (12) with a semi-cylindrical bottom wall (14). The slot has a partially threaded bore (16). In use, a plurality of screws are secured into adjacent spinal bodies. The slots (12) of the screws are aligned before inserting the common rod (20) into each slot to link the screws together. A pad (22), contoured to fit the profile of the rod (20), is next introduced into the bore (16) of each screw by use of a special tool to which it is screwed. When a pad has been introduced the tool is unscrewed from the pad leaving the pad in place. A threaded plug (34) is then screwed into the bore (16) of each screw to urge the pad (22) against the rod (20), to clamp the rod. The apparatus also comprises an instrumentation kit and novel tools to facilitate use.

    摘要: Un appareil chirurgical destiné à la correction ou à l'atténuation de défauts de la colonne vertébrale comprend une pluralité de vis pédiculaires et d'éléments associés, y compris une tige correctrice commune que l'on serre entre les vis. Chaque vis comporte une tête rainurée (12) dotée d'un fond de gorge semi-cylindrique (14). La rainure comporte un alésage partiellement fileté (16). Lors de l'utilisation de l'appareil, on fixe une pluralité de vis dans des corps spinaux adjacents. Les rainures (12) des vis sont alignées avant insertion de la tige commune (20) dans chaque rainure afin de relier les vis. Ensuite, une garniture dotée du profil complémentaire de la tige (20) est introduite dans l'alésage (16) de chaque vis à l'aide d'un outil spécial auquel elle est vissée. Une fois la garniture mise en place, on dévisse l'outil de la garniture pour la laisser in situ. Puis, on visse un obturateur fileté dans l'alésage (16) de chaque vis de manière à appliquer la garniture (22) contre la tige (20) afin d'immobiliser celle-ci. L'appareil comprend également une trousse d'instruments et des outils de conception nouvelle pour faciliter l'utilisation de l'appareil.

    摘要: Medical diagnostic instruments/systems are provided that include (i) a proximal handle configured and dimensioned to permit an operator to manually grasp the instrument; (ii) an ultrasound probe including a longitudinal shaft extending distally from the handle and terminating in a distal end, and an ultrasound transducer mounted with respect to the longitudinal shaft, the ultrasound transducer including an array of ultrasonic energy generation elements (iii) a tactile feeler probe mounted with respect to the ultrasound probe; and (iv) at least one hollow receiver member mounted with respect to the longitudinal shaft of the ultrasound probe, the at least one hollow receiver member configured to receive a K-wire to permit the instrument to be slidably mounted thereto for purposes of guiding the ultrasound and tactile feeler probes axially relative to a desired anatomical location. Advantageous methods for use of the disclosed instruments/systems are also provided.
