Die Gegenstände können in der UV-Bestrahlungskammer (7) mittels mindestens einer UV-Lampe (8, 9) bestrahlt werden, die zur Abfuhr ihrer Wärmeleistung eine mit einem Kühlmedium arbeitende Kühleinrichtung aufweist. Die zu trocknenden Gegenstände (2) werden mittels eines Fördersystems durch den Trockentunnel (6) und die UV-Bestrahlungskammer (7) hindurchgeführt. Zur effektiven Energieausnutzung ist das Kühlmedium der UV-Lampe (8, 9) zum Trockentunnel (6) zurückführbar und wärmemäßig an die darin herrschende Inertgasatmosphäre so ankoppelbar, dass die von der UV-Lampe (8, 9) erzeugte Wärme teilweise zur Erwärmung der Inertgasatmosphäre im Trockentunnel (6) beiträgt.

A method of and an apparatus for coating a substrate with a polymer solution to produce a film of uniform thickness, includes mounting the substrate inside an enclosed housing and passing a control gas, which may be a solvent vapor-bearing gas into the housing through an inlet. The polymer solution is deposited onto the surface of the susbstrate in the housing and the substrate is then spun. The control gas and any solvent vapor and particulate contaminants suspended in the control gas are exhausted from the housing through an outlet and the solvent vapor concentration is controlled by controlling temperature of the housing and the solvent from which the solvent vapor-bearing gas is produced. Instead the concentration can be controlled by mixing gases having different solvent concentrations. The humidity of the gas may also be controlled.

A UV hardenable coating agent contains at least one aliphatic urethane(meth)acrylate prepolymer PU with at least two double bonds per molecule or a mixture of at least one urethane(meth)acrylate prepolymer PU and at least one reactive diluent, said contents being the photochemically cross-linkable component. At least one of said coating agents is applied to the substrate to be coated. The humid coating thus obtained is hardened in an inert gas atmosphere under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
